About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and values-driven Head of Responsible Wagering to join our Legal, Governance and Risk division on a permanent, full-time basis, reporting to the Chief Legal, Governance and Risk Officer.

This senior leadership role is responsible for leading and maturing RWWA’s responsible wagering and harm-minimisation framework, ensuring compliance with the National Consumer Protection Framework, wagering legislation, and broader regulatory and community expectations.

You will provide strategic direction, governance oversight, and assurance across responsible wagering obligations, while maintaining a strong customer-centric focus. Acting as a trusted advisor to the Executive, Board, and government stakeholders, you will translate regulatory and social responsibility expectations into practical, effective programs that protect customers and support sustainable wagering operations.

This role also provides leadership and oversight of the Responsible Wagering Officer, ensuring high-quality operational delivery, sound judgement, and consistent responses to customers experiencing or at risk of gambling harm.

This is a high-impact opportunity for a senior professional who is motivated by purpose, ethical leadership, and influencing positive outcomes in a highly regulated environment.

Key responsibilities Include:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of RWWA’s responsible wagering and harm-minimisation framework.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with the National Consumer Protection Framework and responsible wagering legislation.
  • Advise the Executive and Board on emerging responsible wagering risks, regulatory trends, and community expectations.
  • Oversee responsible wagering governance, assurance, reporting, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Lead and support the operational delivery of responsible wagering services through the Responsible Wagering Officer.
  • Analyse customer risk data and trends to inform evidence-based decision-making and harm-reduction strategies.
  • Engage with regulators, government agencies, and industry forums as a senior subject matter expert.
  • Promote organisational awareness and accountability for responsible wagering obligations across the business.

About You

You are a senior professional with strong judgement, credibility, and empathy, capable of leading sensitive and complex harm-minimisation functions within a regulated environment. You balance customer protection, regulatory compliance, and organisational sustainability with confidence and integrity.

To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Substantial experience in responsible wagering, gambling harm minimisation, regulatory compliance, or a related field within wagering, financial services, or government.
  • Strong working knowledge of the National Consumer Protection Framework and wagering legislation.
  • Proven experience translating regulatory requirements into practical operational frameworks.
  • Sound strategic thinking and the ability to provide clear, evidence-based advice to executives and boards.
  • Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including with regulators and government bodies.
  • The ability to manage emotionally complex matters with professionalism, consistency, and resilience.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in law, public policy, social sciences, compliance, risk management, or a related discipline (desirable).
