Head of Engineering
TLDR
Lead the architecture and development of a high-performance game server infrastructure ensuring low latency for global players.
- Overall Architecture Design & Direction: Build a Technology Roadmap for a Game Server system capable of handling extreme high concurrency while ensuring low latency for players worldwide.
- Cost Optimization: Decide on Cloud infrastructure strategies (AWS, GCP, Azure) or Hybrid Cloud to balance performance against OpEx (operational expenditure).
- Senior Advisory: Collaborate with the Executive Board to navigate the relationship between Time-to-Market for new features and core system stability.
- Tech Stack Selection: Evaluate and finalize programming languages (Go, C++, Java, Node.js, etc.) and processing models (Microservices vs. Monolith) best suited to complex game logic.
- Scalability Solutions: Directly lead the development of Auto-scaling, Load Balancing, and player State management mechanisms across large clusters.
- Data Management: Design Database architectures (SQL/NoSQL) and caching systems (Redis, Memcached) to handle billions of queries per day without bottlenecks.
- Uptime Assurance: Build real-time Monitoring and Alerting systems to maintain 99.99% Availability.
- Network Security: Implement comprehensive DDoS protection, in-game anti-cheat solutions, and user data security measures.
- Infrastructure & CI/CD: Standardize automated deployment pipelines to ensure game updates (Hotfixes/Updates) cause zero disruption to players.
- Strategy Deployment & Optimization: Develop Cloud Services cost optimization plans (AWS/GCP/Azure), evaluate the use of Spot Instances, Reserved Instances, or Private Cloud solutions to reduce operational costs, and establish 24/7 Monitoring and Incident Response systems.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in IT, including at least 3–5 years in CTO, Head of Engineering, or Solution Architect roles within Online Gaming or Real-time Platforms.
- Hands-on experience deploying server systems for at least one large-scale product.
- Deep understanding of Network Protocols (TCP/UDP, WebSocket, HTTP/3) and Load Balancing mechanisms.
- Strong command of specialized data storage solutions: In-memory databases (Redis, Memcached), NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra), and optimized SQL.
- Proficiency in Cloud infrastructure management and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strategic cost mindset: ability to read and interpret Cloud bills and propose cost-reduction solutions without compromising performance.
- Product & Business Thinking: Goes beyond pure engineering — must understand business objectives to invest in technology at the right time and in the right areas.
- Ability to make decisive decisions in system crisis situations.
- Salary: negotiable based on competency
