Role overview 🚀

As the Head of Data at Uncapped, you will lead our data organisation: engineering, analytics and data science to drive the company's growth and competitive advantage. You will sit at the vital intersection of data strategy, financial engineering, and product innovation to ensure our alternative credit scoring models and business insights are powered by a world-class data ecosystem.

This is a critical leadership role in a fast-paced, high-growth fintech. You'll be instrumental in scaling our data capabilities as we expand our lending operations and build underwriting-as-a-service for the broader market.

We leverage multiple data sources to make credit decisions faster, safer and more conveniently. We are working with the largest platforms in the world, including Amazon and Walmart, and strive to be the best alternative-lender globally.

What will you do ✍️

• Lead Data Strategy & Team Build and mentor a high-performing data organisation while architecting the company-wide data vision that directly supports our mission to turn data into instant capital access. You'll establish governance policies and core principles that enable autonomous, data-driven decision-making across the business.
• Build Innovative Underwriting Capabilities Partner with Risk and Engineering teams to develop cutting-edge credit decisioning models using alternative data sources (Shopify sales, bank transactions, stock levels) rather than traditional credit bureaus. Scale our underwriting infrastructure to support both internal lending and underwriting-as-a-service for acquired loan books, making our vision of data-driven capital access a reality for every e-commerce business.
• Own Data Infrastructure & Platform Design and evolve our automated data platform, building scalable pipelines that ingest large volumes of forward-looking data while consolidating existing sources. Balance infrastructure development with cost optimization and query performance to support our high-growth trajectory.
• Drive Data Quality & Governance Establish rigorous standards for data collection, security, and compliance. Create the single source of truth for critical business entities and implement processes that ensure engineering teams build features on solid data foundations, critical for maintaining trust in our data-driven underwriting model.
• Enable Cross-functional Impact Partner with Risk, Product, and Sales to deliver actionable insights, self-service analytics, and models that monitor portfolio health and unlock revenue opportunities. Assess costs and benefits of new data initiatives to drive commercial value as we scale rapidly.

Requirements

Who you are 👀

Experience & Technical Skills

• 8-10+ years in data leadership roles, with proven track record leading "0-to-1" data projects in fast-paced startup environments
• Expert-level proficiency in SQL, Python, and Cloud Data Architectures (GCP/AWS/Azure)
• Deep understanding of machine learning models and API integrations
• Strong background in agile methodologies and experience building automated self-service analytics tools
• Thrives in high-growth, rapidly evolving environments where priorities shift and pace is intense

Strategic & Commercial Capabilities

• Understanding of how data-driven businesses leverage information to drive profitability and how data quality impacts the bottom line
• Ability to balance hands-on execution with long-term strategic planning
• Commercial acumen to assess cost-benefit of new data sources and initiatives

Note: While fintech or lending experience is valuable, we're open to candidates from other data-intensive industries who demonstrate strong technical leadership and strategic thinking.
