You will work closely with all parts of the Data Team, collaborating with wider technology teams and business stakeholders to tackle complex data challenges and turn the bank’s data opportunities into real, measurable impact. You’ll help Finance, Credit Risk, Product, Lending, and Servicing teams to ensure data is trusted, well‑governed, and strategically leveraged across the organisation.

 
Your Impact: Building a sustainable tomorrow

As a Head of Data Management at Tandem, your focus will be on:

  • Strategy & Leadership - Define and execute a data management strategy covering governance, modelling, engineering, metadata, quality, retention, access, and ethics. Set operating model, roadmap, and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Data Governance & Compliance – Establish and enforce policies for data quality, classification, security, privacy, retention, and ethical use. Implement metadata and cataloguing practices for discoverability.
  • Data Change & Delivery – Lead data change delivery, prioritising requests, releases and change control for data platforms and semantic layers. Define development standards and CI/CD.
  • Analytics Engineering & Data Modelling – Lead analytics engineering best practice: modular SQL/dbt models, tests, sources, exposures, and governed metrics; orchestrate pipelines with Mage.ai. Own conceptual, logical and physical data models.
  • Database Design, Indexing & Optimisation – Database design and performance: indexing strategies, partitioning, storage layout, query tuning, capacity planning and cost optimisation on SQL Server.
  • People Leadership – Manage, coach and grow a team of 8+ across data governance, data modelling, analytics engineering, and data change. Establish career paths for team members using the SFIA9 standard backed by individual targets that further both their development and the goals of the back.

  • AI – used for data acquisition and ELT orchestration
  • Python – used for data acquisition, data publishing and analysis
  • SQL – we use a mix of TimescaleDB and Microsoft SQL Server as our structured data storage
  • dbt – is used for data transformation, lineage and metadata
  • SharePoint/S3/SFTP – all used in our unstructured data processes
  • GitHub/Concourse – used for code management and CI/CD
