In this position, you will collaborate closely with key internal stakeholders to implement credit risk initiatives, build a high-performing analytics team, and cultivate robust cross-functional relationships across Sales, Operations, Engineering, Product, and external partners. You should have over 10 years of experience in credit risk and analytics within fintech or banking, specifically in consumer or SME lending, with at least 5 years in senior managerial roles.

What you will do ✍️

  • Lead Analytical Credit Risk Management: Design and implement a comprehensive credit risk management and analytics framework for Uncapped's small business lending portfolio.
  • Oversee Advanced Credit Risk Models: Oversee the creation of risk models by data scientists and incorporate them into underwriting strategies.
  • Innovate with Diverse Data Sources: Analyse structured and unstructured data from disparate sources, exploring unconventional datasets. Design experiments to collect additional data when necessary.
  • Ensure Robust Model Deployment: Collaborate with Data Engineering, Decision Science and ML Ops teams to validate, test, and deploy machine learning model driven strategies, ensuring ongoing performance monitoring in live environments.
  • Provide Analytical Leadership: Provide analytical leadership to the rest of the organisation, including key areas outside risk such as marketing, pricing, segmentation, product development and customer experience.
  • Risk-Based Pricing Strategies: Build and refine pricing strategies to maintain an optimal risk-return profile.
  • Mentor and Lead: Manage and develop a team of analysts, ensuring high-quality analytical outputs that align with strategic objectives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Cultivate strong relationships with Sales, Operations, Engineering, Product, and external partners to drive shared success.

Requirements

Who you are 👀

  • Experience: 10 to 15 years in analytical credit risk management within fintech or banking, specialising in consumer or SME lending, with at least 5 years in managerial roles.
  • Analytical Expertise: Proven proficiency in data analysis, credit strategy development, and advanced data science tools and methodologies. Strong familiarity with cutting-edge machine learning techniques is a significant advantage.
  • Education: Robust academic foundation in quantitative fields, supported by a minimum 3-year bachelor’s degree OR a full 2-year master’s degree (or equivalent) in Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Data Science or Physics. Short or accelerated postgraduate programs (e.g., 1-year master’s degrees) do not meet this requirement.
  • Technical Skills: Strong hands-on coding abilities in SQL and Python, with a commitment to maintaining technical proficiency.
  • Innovative Mindset: Demonstrated ability to explore and utilise unconventional data sources to drive analytical innovation.
  • Leadership: A proven track record of mentoring teams, driving value creation, and delivering measurable results.
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively to diverse stakeholders.
