The Role

The Head of Compliance, Cyprus leads the Compliance function at Pepperstone, ensuring adherence to the financial services regulatory framework and promoting a strong compliance culture. This role involves establishing a robust Compliance, Risk, and AML function to manage regulatory obligations and mitigate risks. Reporting to the Regional Head of Compliance UK/EEA and working with the Group Compliance & Risk function, the Head of Compliance is the primary contact for local regulators. Success in this key management position requires a deep understanding of regulatory compliance, significant autonomy, and collaboration with commercial stakeholders to align with the organization’s strategic objectives.

As our Head of Compliance, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Enhancing Pepperstone’s existing regulatory compliance framework and processes including measurements, monitoring, assessments and controls.
  • Providing leadership to direct reports ensuring clear learning and development pathways.
  • Identifying and ensuring coverage of all applicable financial services and other relevant legislation.
  • Maintaining the Regulatory Obligations Register.
  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive Compliance Monitoring Program including reporting on identified control issues and remediation activity.
  • Drafting, implementing, monitoring and reviewing compliance policies and maintaining associated compliance registers.
  • Managing compliance incidents and breaches including investigations, assessments and reporting.
  • Performing the role of designated MLRO with responsibility for the AML/CTF Program and implementation of associated obligations.
  • Managing designated regulatory reporting obligations.
  • Assisting the legal team with the content and management of regulated disclosure documents.
  • Coordinating with commercial stakeholders and external professional services to resolve compliance related issues.
  • Identifying risks and working closely with stakeholders to manage and respond to those risks effectively.
  • Managing regulatory relationships with regulatory authorities and dealing with enquires.
  • Serving as the primary contact person for regulatory authorities maintaining excellent relationships.
  • Supporting regulatory applications, maintaining current regulatory licenses.
  • Providing compliance advisory services to internal stakeholders and participating in relevant projects.
  • Managing and coordinating compliance education and training sessions including regulatory training and CPD requirements.
  • Working with the global Compliance & Risk team across our international offices to implement common initiatives and projects and leverage efficiencies.
  • Participating in Group Compliance & Risk meetings and other relevant meetings.
  • Preparation of necessary reports for senior management and the Compliance Committee and assisting with Board reporting.
  • Keeping up to date with new or changing legislative requirements that may apply to the business and providing assistance with adopting and implementing changes.
  • Contributing to the Group Compliance & Risk function and enterprise-wide compliance framework and objectives.
  • Working with internal and external consultants, advisors and auditors as required.
  • Responding to queries from the business regarding specialist compliance matters.
  • Keeping abreast of regulatory rule changes and developments, assessing their impact and as appropriate, circulate management to consider next steps.
  • Keeping up to date with EMIR and MIFID regulatory developments, technical standards and industry solutions.
  • Providing advice to the business on relevant regulations that impact a firm dealing in OTC products.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 8 years in regulatory compliance and AML/CTF in financial services
  • Management experience in Compliance or Risk at a regulated firm
  • Thorough knowledge of AML law, CySEC regulations, MiFID, and European regulatory issues
  • Understanding of Operational Risk frameworks and Risk Register Maintenance
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Collaborative skills across teams and locations
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Highly motivated and adaptable with a commitment to success
  • Proficient in various technologies and adaptable to new systems
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development

  • Professional proficiency in English
  • Experience with European regulators (desirable)
  • Knowledge of OTC products, particularly CFDs and Margin Forex. Crypto assets knowledge and experience-advantageous.

Special Requirements

  • Experience in leading Compliance or Risk functions in complex organizations.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with a deep understanding of financial services legislation and regulations.
  • Knowledge of EU and other AML and financial services regulations.
  • Preferred qualifications: CySEC, ICA, CISI, ACAMS, or other AML certifications.
  • Participation in industry forums and events as needed.
  • Willingness to travel for business as required.
