Harness Integration Technician

TLDR

Contribute to the development of an innovative humanoid robot by designing and building custom wire harnesses in a fast-paced prototyping environment.

About Figure

Figure is an AI Robotics company developing a general purpose humanoid. Our humanoid robot is designed for commercial tasks and the home. We are based in San Jose, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration. It’s time to build.

We are looking for a Wire Harness Technician. In this role, you will be highly focused on designing and building wire harnesses and custom cables to enable test setups required for rapid iteration across development, validation, and integration efforts. You will operate in a fast-paced prototyping and low-volume environment, building production-quality harnesses as well as on-demand, non-standard cable solutions that directly unblock engineering and testing teams. You will build harnesses from drawings, BOMs, and work orders while meeting IPC/WHMA standards and aggressive delivery timelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Build build-to-print and custom wire harnesses, including cut, strip, crimp, solder, braid/sleeve, heat-shrink, basic potting, and final terminations.
  • Create custom cables and harnesses on demand to support test setups, debugging, EVT/DVT activities, and rapid hardware iteration, often with evolving or incomplete requirements.
  • Partner closely with engineering and test teams to quickly translate test needs into practical cable and harness solutions.
  • Read and follow drawings, schematics, BOMs, work orders, and ECOs; record traceability in ERP/routers.
  • Crimp and verify terminals/contacts (TE/AMP, Molex, JST, Amphenol/LEMO, etc.) with specified tooling; document pull tests when required.
  • Print and apply labels and heat-shrink markers per print.
  • Perform electrical tests: continuity, insulation/hipot, and basic troubleshooting with DMMs, cable testers, and fixtures.
  • Execute rework to spec (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620) and support NCMR/MRB containment.
  • Maintain 5S/ESD and safety standards; proactively suggest process, tooling, and DFM improvements—especially for testability and iteration speed.

Requirements:

  • 2–5+ years building wire harnesses and cable assemblies in manufacturing or prototyping environments.
  • Strong ability to independently design and execute custom cable builds for test and prototype use.
  • Ability to read prints/schematics and follow work instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in crimping and soldering (selective tinning, shields/drain wires, coax, twisted pair).
  • Hands-on experience with tooling: strippers, gauges, pull testers, manual/pneumatic crimpers (Daniels or similar), soldering stations, heat guns.
  • Working knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 (Class 2/3) and familiarity with J-STD-001.
  • Strong quality and schedule focus, with high first-pass yield and low rework in fast-iteration environments.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Current IPC/WHMA-A-620 or J-STD-001 certifications.
  • Experience supporting test labs, EVT/DVT builds, and rapid iteration cycles.
  • Experience with cable testers (e.g., Cirris) and basic fixture integration.
  • Exposure to ECOs/NPI, startup environments, and creating or maintaining SOPs.
  • Basic comfort with CAD viewers for drawing review and ERP systems for traceability.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
