Guidance Navigation Control Engineer

TLDR

Design and implement advanced algorithms for UAV autonomy, ensuring reliability and stability under real-world testing conditions.

About Us

STARK is a new kind of defence technology company revolutionizing the way autonomous systems are deployed across multiple domains. We design, develop and manufacture high performance unmanned systems that are software-defined, mass-scalable, and cost effective. This provides our operators with a decisive edge in highly contested environments.
We’re focused on delivering deployable, high-performance systems - not future promises. In a time of rising threats, STARK is bolstering the technological edge of NATO Allies and their Partners to deter aggression and defend Europe - today.

Your mission

We are looking for a Guidance Navigation Control Engineer (GNC Engineer) to design and implement advanced algorithms for UAV autonomy. In this role, you will work at the intersection of control theory, navigation, and real-world testing - turning mathematical models into reliable flight behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement navigation, guidance, and control algorithms for UAV platforms
  • Develop and tune state estimation and sensor fusion pipelines (IMU, GNSS, magnetometer, barometer, etc.)
  • Implement and maintain Kalman filter–based estimators (EKF / UKF)
  • Develop guidance logic for waypoint following, trajectory tracking, and mission execution
  • Design and tune control loops (rate, attitude, velocity, position)
  • Ensure stable behavior under disturbances and degraded conditions (wind, sensor noise, partial data loss)
  • Work closely with software, hardware, and autonomy teams to align interfaces and constraints
  • Validate GNC performance in simulation (SIL / HIL) and during real flight testing
  • Analyze flight logs, investigate anomalies, and improve robustness and predictability

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in control theory, linear algebra, and estimation
  • Hands-on experience with state estimation and sensor fusion
  • Solid understanding of Kalman filtering (EKF required)
  • Experience designing and tuning PID-based control systems
  • Ability to work with real sensor data, noise, and non-ideal conditions
  • System-level thinking and strong debugging skills
Nice to have:
  • Experience with fixed-wing or VTOL UAVs
  • Familiarity with PX4 / ArduPilot
  • Experience with MATLAB / Simulink
  • Experience with C++ / Python / ROS
