Group Design Director, Healthcare

AI overview

Lead the Healthcare portfolio at Huge, setting and elevating design direction while guiding teams to create high-quality digital products in regulated environments.

As a Group Design Director, you will lead the Healthcare portfolio at Huge, setting and elevating the visual, UI, and product design direction for healthcare organizations, including large health systems and enterprise platforms. You will guide multidisciplinary teams and partner closely with clients to deliver distinctive, scalable, and high-quality digital product experiences within highly regulated environments.

This role combines exceptional visual craft, deep product complexity, systems thinking, and leadership. You will set the creative bar across healthcare programs, navigate complex ecosystems, and ensure design excellence while building trusted client relationships and driving meaningful transformation in a traditionally conservative industry.

What you’ll be doing.

  • Build trusted partnerships with healthcare clients, acting as a senior design leader and strategic advisor.
  • Guide clients through complex visual, product, and experience decisions within regulated healthcare environments.
  • Translate healthcare business objectives, user needs, and operational constraints into clear creative and product strategies.
  • Define and own the visual, UI, and product experience direction across platforms, ensuring consistency, quality, and impact.
  • Set and maintain a high bar for visual craft, interface quality, motion, and overall execution.
  • Lead the design of complex product flows and enterprise platforms, not just design systems.
  • Oversee the creation, evolution, and governance of design systems, UI frameworks, and visual languages.
  • Balance creative ambition with regulatory, technical, and organizational constraints to deliver modern, progressive healthcare experiences.
  • Drive innovation across visual design, interaction, motion, and emerging technologies, including AI-driven tools.
  • Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams across UI, UX, copy, and motion design.
  • Inspire teams to create healthcare products that feel intuitive, human, and forward-thinking—not merely compliant.
  • Oversee end-to-end design delivery across multiple workstreams and large-scale programs.
  • Partner closely with Product Managers, client services, strategy, and Engineering to deliver scalable, production-ready solutions.
  • Anticipate risks, manage priorities, and ensure timelines, quality, and client expectations are met.

What we’d like to see.

  • 12+ years of experience in creative and design leadership, ideally within digital product and platform teams.
  • Proven experience managing healthcare clients, specifically health systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working in highly regulated environments, with the ability to balance compliance and creativity.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing complex product experiences, enterprise platforms, and transformation-focused work.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining web-based healthcare products and platforms.
  • Familiarity with healthcare tools and ecosystems such as Epic and FAD (Find a Doc).
  • Deep expertise in product and UI design, including complex workflows, enterprise systems, and advanced Figma proficiency.
  • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams and multiple concurrent workstreams.
  • Ability to contribute to both strategic thinking and hands-on execution when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to modernize traditional industries, creating experiences that feel distinctive, progressive, and user-centered.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with confidence influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborative mindset, partnering effectively with Product, Strategy, Engineering, and Client Services.
  • Experience using AI-driven design tools and emerging technologies.
  • Strong mentorship and coaching skills, with a focus on growing leaders and teams.
