The Scope
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is looking for a creative and ambitious mid-level graphic designer to join our marketing team. This role will report to and work closely within Marketing, as well as other units at FSC, particularly within the Markets and Commercial Unit.
The ideal candidate has strong design skills and creativity, currently works in a graphic design role, and is keen to apply their skills in the non-profit sector, particularly forest protection. The successful candidate will work on internal briefs and develop creative solutions to support FSC’s outreach to mainly business and consumer audiences.
Main Roles & Responsibilities
The specific details of the designer’s role will vary depending on the project, but common activities include:
- Conceptualizing collateral based on identified audience and marketing goals
- Producing attractive and effective designs for all media, with a strong digital lean
- Liaising with team members to receive and address feedback
- Supporting the team throughout the execution of campaigns and projects
Daily, the designer can be expected to:
- Design new brand assets in response to written and verbal briefs, including but not limited to marketing collateral, social media graphics, slide decks, and promotional materials such as case studies, fact sheets, and brochures
- Consistently elevate our brand materials such as presentations or event materials
- Refresh marketing collateral with relevant photography and support maintenance of FSC’s internal asset library
- Present design concepts internally, take feedback and execute design amends
- Review designs to align with FSC’s brand guidelines
- Work closely with the brand experts to ensure consistency both at FSC International and for offices around the world
- Resize and reformat artwork to specific print and digital specifications
- Make website updates using the CMS (training will be provided)
- Edit short videos
- Additional tasks as agreed with the Brand Marketing team
Your profile
Education and Training: - University degree or higher education qualification in graphic design, digital design, digital arts or related field.
Working Experience, Style and Skills:
- 5-7 years’ experience in a design role
- Ability to receive and interpret creative direction and conceptualize new designs
- Advance skills in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, as well as Canva, are essential
- Working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro, as well as Figma, are a plus
- A strong portfolio showcasing a range of design projects, with a digital first focus
- Strong creative concepting, execution, and composition skills
- Ability to engage with the content and make design recommendations or adjustments based on identified content goals
- A detailed and thorough attitude to your work
- Excellent time management and ability to manage deadlines
- Excellent understanding of design fundamentals and limitations of different design formats and executions
- A thorough knowledge of current design trends and best practices
- A good eye for photography
- Ability to learn new technologies
Communication Skills:
- Exemplary verbal skills that create cohesive team efforts and support decision making
- Strong writing skills to convert ideas and feedback into succinct, written communications
- The ability to engage with interactive discussions, comprehend the main ideas and next steps, and maintain positive relationships during discussions
- Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to explain designs and pitch creative concepts to the team
- Languages:
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- Proficiency in another language a plus (esp. French/Spanish)

The Fine Print
- Location: Bonn, Germany.
- Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
- Duration of Employment: Temporary contract – 2years (extension possible, subject to satisfactory performance).
- Starting Date: As soon as possible.
- Travel: Sporadic travel might be required.
