Role Overview

Parallel is a fast-paced scale up with the backing of parent company Sewell Group. The business supports public sector clients across the UK to make decisions about their services, estates and budgets through the delivery of market leading web applications and data visualisation tools, including SHAPE (Strategic Health Asset Planning and Evaluation).

To support growing client demands and an expanding product range, Parallel is looking to grow its development team and take the business to the next level.

The Graduate Software Engineer will join a small but growing software development team to deliver a series of pipeline projects for NHS clients, to modernise technology platforms and enhance existing products to help take the business forward with new products and service offers.

We are seeking a Graduate Software Engineer to support across various projects from development and testing to being the first point of contact for client enquiries within our SHAPE application. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining and updating datasets within the SHAPE platform that is used by over 18,000 users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and execution of manual and automated test plans to ensure product quality and reliability.
  • Act as a first point of contact for client enquiries related to the SHAPE platform, providing timely and professional support.
  • Maintain and update datasets within the SHAPE application, ensuring accuracy and relevance for over 18,000 users.
  • Assist in the identification and resolution of software bugs and performance issues across multiple applications.
  • Collaborate with the software development team to design, develop, test, and deploy new features and enhancements for SHAPE and other web-based applications.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and best practices in software engineering, contributing ideas to improve development processes and product offerings.
  • Support the implementation of CI/CD pipelines and version control practices using tools like Git, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions.
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand user needs and translate them into technical requirements and solutions.
  • Document technical processes, user guides, and troubleshooting steps to support internal knowledge sharing and client self-service.
  • Participate in Agile process such as sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives to support continuous improvement.

Requirements

Essential

  • Recent graduate with a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience or willingness to learn in a 2nd line support capacity: assisting clients with requests, troubleshooting issues, and resolving bugs.
  • Hold a basic understanding of writing or maintaining manual/automated tests (e.g., unit, integration, or end-to-end testing).
  • Knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript, ideally Vue or other modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with .NET development (C# preferred)
  • Proficient in XML, HTML, CSS/SCSS.
  • Familiarity with SQL and backend development, ideally with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Understanding of REST APIs and web services.
  • The ability to work across multiple applications and projects, in a fast paced, outputs focused environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for data and software.

Desirable

  • Knowledge on SaaS Business Model
  • Basic experience or familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools and version control (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
