As the Global Microbials P&S Operations Establishment Manager, you will lead the commercialization of innovative microbial products from our R&D pipeline. You will define Syngenta's microbials and fermentation sourcing and production strategy, managing the industrialization of microbial active ingredients, fermentation products and natural molecules. This role combines strategic leadership with technical expertise to establish sustainable production operations and drive capability enhancement projects that support our growing biologicals portfolio.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and lead a team of Technology, Sourcing, Production and support-function specialists in developing capabilities required to commercialize new microbial products and natural molecules
  • Develop a microbial production strategy considering in-house production, contract manufacturing and long-term partnerships to manage commercialization of the internal R&D pipeline
  • Provide high-level fermentation and downstream processing technical and manufacturing expertise to the organization
  • Coordinate delivery of new fermentation products and active ingredients through direction of multifunctional Technology & Sourcing Strategy and Supply Chain Teams
  • Sponsor and lead projects to support sustainable production operations, scaling fermentative production and downstream processing operations in line with product life cycle
  • Lead development and approval of major project and capital proposals, coordinating engineering, business, manufacturing, technical, legal, finance, operations and procurement inputs
  • Prepare and present strategic and project expenditure proposals to secure Global Commercial and P&S Leadership team support and approvals
  • Ensure technology transfers between R&D and Syngenta manufacturing entities or third-party suppliers to specific milestones
  • Manage high degrees of uncertainty in cost, volume, regulatory and timing targets that change frequently
  • Provide technical and operational network advice to Global Direct Procurement Managers in support of negotiation and implementation of effective supply agreements
  • Act as Key Account Manager for Strategic Suppliers, developing supplier relationships and improved ways of working
  • Provide expert input to support M&A and commercial in/out-licensing activities
  • PhD or advanced degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biochemical Engineering
  • Proven track record in senior management roles leading fermentation production and downstream processing operations at commercial scale
  • 10+ years of experience in fermentation technology, manufacturing management, and/or contract manufacturing operations
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-functional projects from initiation to successful delivery
  • Background in techno-commercial roles with understanding of business impact and financial management
  • Demonstrated experience in a Group Leader role or equivalent in the field of Manufacturing Technology, Process Engineering, Technical Operations, or equivalent Technology and Engineering (T&E) functions
  • Fluent English

This role is based at our Global Headquarters in Basel, Switzerland, with the option to be located in Stein, Münchwilen, or Manchester (UK).
