Global Head of Sales Engineering

TLDR

Define and lead the pre-sales technical function, elevating technical selling quality to accelerate revenue growth across Rimes' global sales organization.

About Rimes

Rimes provides enterprise data management solutions to the global investment community. Driven by our passion for solving the most complex data problems, we provide our clients with investment intelligence that powers more than US$75 trillion in assets under management annually. The world’s leading institutional investors, asset managers and service providers rely on Rimes to help them make better investment decisions using accurate information and industry-leading technology.

The Role

The Global Head of Sales Engineering is a senior leadership role that will define and lead the pre-sales technical function across Rimes' global sales organization. This individual will serve as a critical bridge between our commercial teams, product organization, and prospective clients — translating complex technical capabilities into compelling, differentiated value propositions.

Reporting directly to the Chief Revenue Officer, this role is both a player-coach and strategic leader. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in enterprise software or financial data solutions, strong leadership acumen, and a passion for helping clients solve real business challenges. This leader will be instrumental in accelerating Rimes' revenue growth by elevating the quality, consistency, and impact of technical selling across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing global Sales Engineering team, recruiting top talent and fostering a culture of excellence, curiosity, and client-centricity.
  • Define and implement a consistent pre-sales methodology, technical playbooks, and engagement frameworks that scale across regions.
  • Act as a player-coach, directly engaging in strategic and complex deals while developing the skills and capabilities of the broader SE team.
  • Set clear performance standards, provide regular coaching and feedback, and manage team performance with accountability and care.
  • Partner with Sales leadership to align SE resources effectively across the pipeline and ensure appropriate coverage and prioritization.

Pre-Sales Execution & Client Engagement

  • Lead and participate in discovery conversations, solution presentations, technical demonstrations, and proof-of-concept engagements with prospective clients.
  • Develop deep expertise in Rimes' platform, data capabilities, and integration ecosystem to credibly address technical and functional questions from sophisticated investment management clients.
  • Craft compelling, tailored solution narratives that connect Rimes' capabilities to client-specific challenges in areas such as benchmark data, ESG, performance measurement, regulatory reporting, and data governance.
  • Oversee the completion of RFPs, RFIs, and security questionnaires in collaboration with internal subject matter experts, ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Build trusted advisor relationships with technical and business stakeholders at target accounts, including CIOs, CTOs, data officers, and operations leaders.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary feedback loop between the field and Rimes' Product and Engineering teams, translating prospect and client needs into actionable product insights.
  • Partner with Marketing to develop technical content, case studies, competitive positioning materials, and thought leadership that supports pipeline development.
  • Collaborate with Account Management and Customer Success to support smooth transitions from pre-sales to post-sales and ensure long-term client value realization.
  • Work closely with Sales Operations to instrument and report on SE team performance, pipeline contribution, and win/loss analysis.

Strategy & Operational Excellence

  • Define the vision and strategy for the global Sales Engineering function, aligning with broader revenue and go-to-market priorities.
  • Establish and maintain a scalable technical demo environment, including sandbox environments, demo data sets, and reusable assets.
  • Drive continuous improvement across SE processes, tools, and enablement to improve efficiency and win rates.
  • Contribute to sales forecasting, territory planning, and deal review processes as a key member of the GTM leadership team.

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in sales engineering, technical pre-sales, or solutions consulting, with at least 7 years in a leadership or management capacity.
  • Proven track record of success in enterprise B2B software or data services, ideally within financial services, fintech, or data infrastructure.
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain high-performing technical sales talent.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise sales cycles, including complex, multi-stakeholder deals with 12+ month timelines.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills — able to engage credibly with both technical audiences and senior business executives.
  • Experience working with investment management firms, asset managers, or other financial institutions is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment with a high degree of ownership and accountability.
  • Willingness to travel globally as required to support client engagements and team development.

Preferred / Ideal Qualifications

  • Domain expertise in one or more of the following areas: financial benchmark and index data, ESG data, performance measurement, regulatory reporting (EMIR, MiFID, SFDR), or reference data management.
  • Experience with data integration technologies, APIs, cloud data platforms, or data warehousing (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Familiarity with investment management operations, including front, middle, and back office workflows.
  • Experience scaling a Sales Engineering function in a high-growth or transformation environment.
  • Exposure to CRM platforms (Salesforce) and pre-sales tools used to manage pipeline and technical engagements.
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Finance, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Multilingual capabilities are a plus given the global nature of the role.
