The company is led by a team of seasoned travel industry leaders. About This Role VacationRenter is seeking a versatile and highly skilled Full Stack Engineer to join our engineering organization. In this role, the engineer will shape the traveler experience end-to-end, building intuitive user interfaces while also crafting the backend services that power them. The role spans our modern frontend and backend stack to deliver high-quality, high-impact features, from translating design specs into elegant UI components to implementing robust APIs that ensure seamless integration. You’ll have direct influence on technical decisions, architecture, and best practices, while contributing to the direction and culture of the engineering team. The ideal candidate thrives in an ownership-driven environment, enjoys solving complex problems, and takes pride in building polished, user-facing experiences backed by scalable, reliable systems. The engineer will collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver new features, improve performance, and help scale the platform to support millions of users. This role will report directly to the Head of Engineering. This is a full-time hybrid position, based in Dallas. Role & Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate closely with leadership, product, and engineering teams to design, architect, and deliver end-to-end features across our platform
  • Build and maintain user-facing applications using React, Next.js, and TypeScript, ensuring high performance, accessibility, and a great user experience
  • Develop and optimize backend services using Node.js, integrating with PostgreSQL and other internal systems
  • Contribute to all parts of the business where software is needed, including internal tools, back office systems, data integrations, warehousing, and reporting
  • Work in partnership with the existing engineering team to amplify collective output, share knowledge, and uphold high standards of code quality and system reliability
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and ongoing improvements to our development practices, tooling, and infrastructure
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of backend software engineering experience
  • Experience with Node.js and PostgreSQL (or equivalent relational databases)
  • Experience with React, Next.js, and Tailwind
  • Proficiency with AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent) and the ability to leverage agentic AI tools for complex, multi-file development tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and alignment with project architecture
  • SQL skills - able to write, debug, and optimize queries
  • Solid understanding of backend architecture, distributed systems, and scalability principles
  • Experience with DevOps practices and cloud infrastructure (preferably Google Cloud or AWS), including CI/CD, monitoring, and infrastructure as code
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a self-driven, ownership mentality
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Preferred Qualifications & Prior Experience:
  • Experience in the travel, marketplace, or e-commerce space
  • Experience scaling systems to millions of daily users
  • Contributions to open-source projects or tech communities
  • Experience with Google Cloud or an equivalent cloud services platform
