Freelance Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) – STEM and research

Fee: USD $2,500 per course
Maximum allocation: Up to 2 courses per SME

We are recruiting experienced STEM Subject Matter Experts to support the development of a Professional Certificate programme made up of four applied, industry-focused courses.

Each course will be assigned to dedicated SMEs, working closely with our Learning Designers to ensure technical accuracy, relevance, and real-world application. SMEs may contribute to a maximum of two courses.

Available Courses

SMEs will be appointed per course, based on experience and expertise:

1. Fundamentals of Laboratory Research
2. Experimental Design and Product Testing
3. Product Development Fundamentals
4. Laboratory Data Analysis and Documentation

Detailed course outlines will be provided.

Scope of Work

As a Subject Matter Expert, you will:

• Review and contribute expert input to the provided course outline
• Collaborate with Learning Designers to:
• Refine learning objectives and core concepts
• Validate technical accuracy and industry relevance
• Provide practical examples, workflows, and applied scenarios

• Contribute content guidance for:
• Explanations of key concepts
• Case studies and real-world applications
• Assessments and knowledge checks

• Ensure content reflects current industry practices, standards, and terminology

This is not a teaching or facilitation role. Learning Designers handle instructional structure and production—your role is focused on expert content input and applied insight.

Time Commitment & Commercials

• Time commitment: Approximately 20 hours per week per course, over ±2 months
• Fee: USD $2,500 per course, payable upon successful completion and acceptance of deliverables
• Course allocation: SMEs may be contracted for up to two courses
• Engagement type: Freelance / Independent Contractor
• Location: Fully remote

Requirements

Ideal Candidate Profile

We’re looking for professionals with deep, practical STEM experience who enjoy translating expertise into structured learning.

Essential Requirements

• 5–8+ years of relevant industry experience in a STEM-related field
• Strong hands-on experience in one or more of the following:
• Laboratory research or research support
• Experimental design and product testing
• Product development environments
• Laboratory data handling, analysis, and documentation
• Study coordination or research operations
• Postgraduate qualification in a STEM field
  or
  Strong Bachelor’s degree (STEM preferred) combined with substantial industry experience
• Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly

Advantageous (Not Required)

• Experience producing SOPs, protocols, reports, or training documentation
• Industry-based (non-academic) research experience
• Prior collaboration with learning, training, or curriculum teams
