The Freelance Senior Copy Editor's primary responsibility is proofreading and editing for quality, accuracy, and stylistic consistency across a broad range of print and digital advertising and marketing collateral.  This position serves as support to the creative team under the direction of assigned ACD, Copy. The Senior Copy Editor helps ensure that individual copywriters are working within the medical and brand guidelines associated with each project and supports the partnership between Copy and Editorial to yield the best work and the most efficient and effective working environment.

  • Provide day-to-day support to our service organization that mirrors the adopted mission and core values of the company 
  • Ensure quality, consistency, and accuracy across multiple print and digital integrated campaign pieces over a wide array of brands  
  • Proofread manuscripts and layouts with an eye for accuracy (mastery of spelling, terminology, punctuation, grammar, syntax, tone) and compliance with the AMA Manual of Style, the client style, brand style, and/or Circa house style 
  • Understand the varying needs of individual audiences and ensure that the communication with each is in keeping with brand and/or campaign guidelines 
  • Make constructive suggested edits to clarify meaning, to maintain consistency, and to conform to the AMA Manual of Style, the client style, brand style, and/or Circa house style 
  • Verify that facts and claims are supported by credible references; research and confirm the approvability of all content from a regulatory perspective  
  • Verify correct implementation of agency, client, and regulatory/medical/legal changes or requirements 
  • Demonstrate familiarity with VEEVA and other MLR submissions systems 
  • Understand the advertising requirements of various regulating bodies, including FDA, EPA, USDA 
  • Revise medical copy for precision, clarity, and technical/structural accuracy; correct grammar and spelling 
  • Annotate/fact-check reference citations for submission to medical/legal/regulatory reviews 
  • Helps maintain a variety of copy style guides for individual products and/or clients  
  • Proof final files for release to vendors and/or clients 
  • Ensure copy meets all legal, medical, regulatory compliance, and brand consistency requirements 
  • Keep up to date on skills, client, and industry trends
