The Opportunity

At AimHi Earth, our purpose is to ignite the desire to learn and act on what matters.

We are all focused on solving the following problem:

There’s no shortage of information - only of curiosity, focus and activation. This is a key part of why society isn’t taking adequate, informed action on the climate and nature emergency.

This is why AimHi Earth exists to transform understanding of the climate emergency, to activate hundreds of millions of nature-first thinkers, and to accelerate the evolution of our economy and society to one of sustainability and regeneration.

We are working to ensure that people and organisations everywhere understand the full picture of the climate and nature emergency, and are motivated to drive positive change, so that we can build a healthier, cooler, more verdant future together.

At AimHi Earth, we…

  • are a small, fast-moving and highly-motivated team.
  • are founded by three nature-first thinkers (majority women) dedicated to building a better future.
  • are supported by world-class organisations – Cambridge Zero (University of Cambridge), Nature4Climate, UNEP, Eden Project.
  • are supported by world-class advisors – Sir Jonathan Porritt, Dr Cécile Girardin, Sir Tim Smit, Erica Neve FRSA, Amali De Alwis MBE, Jon Drori CBE, Lord Jim Knight, Sabra Noordeen.
  • have already trained tens of thousands of people with our leading interactive live-learning experience (>95% audience retention, >50% per-minute engagement).
  • are at the forefront of setting a new standard for rapid mindset change at scale (>90% measurable behaviour change).
  • have changed the kits of football players, the funding strategy of charities, the speeches of Olympic medallists, the output of broadcasters and the direction of companies.
  • are winning work with major clients; from zeitgeist-defining companies to Fortune 500 giants (including Unilever, Sky, CapGemini, Universal, PepsiCo, BBC, NHS).

We’re now seeking thoughtful, collaborative, diligent Climate & Nature Researchers & Writers to join our bank of freelance writers as we scale from tens of thousands to millions.

Your role will be to help ensure our material is meaningful and valuable for corporate and institutional audiences whilst remaining high-integrity, hard-hitting, up-to-date and as engaging and moving as the scale of this global emergency demands.

Role Summary

As a Climate & Nature Researcher & Writer, you will play a pivotal role in crafting and nurturing the narrative core of our work - researching, creating and finessing the material that the rest of the team is working so hard to get to people. You’ll work directly with our Head of Product Riley Spicer, our content lead, Paty Gonzalez, and the rest of our product team to make, edit and improve transformative materials for audiences across the globe.

Your work will involve constantly threading a needle through the narrow gap between (i) highly time-constrained, business-/institution-centric audiences, (ii) organisation executives concerned about what material they expose their employees to, and (iii) compelling and informative material that empowers and energises, to drive personal, professional and systemic change.

In essence, this is your chance to motivate and move people at the levers of power.

It’s not an easy task!

Your work will involve:

  • Creating new climate and nature communications material for business, government and institutional audiences.
  • Editing and finessing existing material, ready for delivery by our presenters.
  • Watching demos of new material, and helping to guide it into a better shape.
  • Researching the organisations we work with; in particular on their climate, sustainability and nature work and weaving client-specific references, links and language (always with care and integrity - considering the science and our stringent greenwashing policy) into our existing materials.
  • Helping to update our existing materials to ensure that they remain relevant and current.

Requirements

What you’ll need

  • Extensive experience engaging with diverse perspectives: In particular, we’re looking for someone who knows how to (and enjoys) speak(ing) to a conservative-leaning audience, though we’re keen on a writer who can demonstrate experience speaking to a wide range of backgrounds beyond this.
  • An ability to craft inspiring content that leaves a lasting emotional impact: We are seeking a writer who understands that people remember how they feel most, and details second, and that, consequently, “information” can only have a meaningful impact in a short, packed training session when it’s wrapped in a powerfully emotional envelope.
  • A collaborative mindset: You will need to be able to co-create and incorporate constructive feedback effectively. We have a culture of direct feedback, to help one another to learn as quickly as possible.
  • Diligence and a keen eye for detail.
  • Previous experience working in communications in the climate, sustainability and nature space.

Furthermore, qualities that are essential for working with us at AimHi Earth include:

  • Initiative and ownership - taking responsibility for agreed work and holding a high bar for its quality and impact.
  • The ability to collaborate thoughtfully - rapidly understanding context, engaging with direct feedback, and helping material evolve into its strongest form.
  • Discipline and self-motivation as a remote contributor, with strong time management and clarity around availability.
  • Critical thinking and intellectual rigour - approaching complex challenges with care, nuance and a willingness to ask difficult, insightful questions.

Nice to haves

The following are not necessary, but we are particularly interested in applicants who can demonstrate one (or more!) of the following:

  • A science degree: Ideally in a biological science (biology, ecology, zoology etc.), though we’re also interested in other sciences (chemistry, earth sciences, physics etc.), particularly if you have a professional background related to complex natural systems.
  • 2+ years communicating to businesses/institutions about sustainability at an organisational level
  • Proven experience in any of digital live learning, behavioural psychology or system-transformation.
  • Proven experience writing promotional and marketing material that understands the audience well enough to add clear value and cut through the noise (please include examples of promo material you’ve written that “understands the audience” in addition to your 1-2 other writing examples, as part of your application).
