Founding Engineer

AI overview

Lead the technical foundation of a transformative platform for maternal health by designing scalable AI systems while shaping the engineering culture in a mission-driven team.

Our hiring partner is building the next generation of maternal health support—combining AI technology with real human expertise to make pregnancy care accessible to millions of families. They’re a mission-driven team of technologists, brand strategists, and women’s health experts creating AI clinicians to support women during pregnancy, starting with doulas.

This is a unique opportunity to be the first engineering hire and define the technical foundation of a platform that will transform how families experience pregnancy and birth 🚀

About the Role

You’ll work directly with the founding team to design and implement scalable systems that blend AI and human-in-the-loop support, helping women access personalized, continuous care. As the Founding Engineer, you’ll be responsible for technical architecture decisions, hands-on development, and helping shape the long-term engineering culture of the company.

This is ideal for someone who thrives in early-stage environments, enjoys working across the stack, and wants to make a tangible impact on women’s health.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement scalable AI + human-in-the-loop support systems

  • Build tools for pregnancy planning, tracking, and clinician workflows

  • Collaborate with founders to set technical priorities and product roadmap

  • Establish a robust, maintainable codebase from the ground up

  • Ensure data integrity, security, and HIPAA compliance as the platform scales

  • Ship new features rapidly and thoughtfully, iterating based on user feedback

  • (Eventually) mentor and recruit engineers as the team grows

What We’re Looking For

  • 3–7 years of full-stack engineering experience (preferably in fast-paced startups)

  • Strong backend and database architecture skills

  • Experience with React Native (our current mobile stack) and modern frameworks

  • Proven ability to ship production-ready products quickly

  • Strong understanding of system design and architecture

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills — this role interacts daily with the founding team

  • High English proficiency required (daily communication with U.S. founders)

  • Preferred: prior experience in healthtech, HIPAA compliance, or regulated data systems

  • Bonus: experience building mobile apps (iOS/Android) or AI/ML products

Ideal Profile

  • A senior full-stack engineer or a strong mid-level ready to take a senior role

  • A builder with an ownership mentality, excited to make architectural decisions

  • Curious, proactive, and motivated to learn new domains (AI + healthcare)

  • Interested in leadership and potentially growing into a Head of Engineering role

  • Passionate about women’s health and social impact

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React Native (mobile-first), React

  • Backend: Node.js / TypeScript or similar modern frameworks

  • Database: PostgreSQL or equivalent

  • Infrastructure: GCP / AWS

  • AI Layer: LLMs, prompt engineering, or custom ML models (a plus)

Why Join

  • Build from zero: be the first engineer and define the technical foundation

  • Shape the product and architecture directly alongside founders

  • Join a mission-driven, all-female founding team revolutionizing maternal health

  • Work at the intersection of AI, empathy, and healthcare innovation

  • Opportunity to grow into a Head of Engineering role as the team expands
