Flight Test Engineer

Our Zurich-based core engineering team explores, develops, and delivers new cutting-edge technologies that serve as the foundation of current and future drone products. We have further offices in the USA and Germany and several remote working talents developing an open source based software platform, connecting multiple drone, camera and other sensor OEMs with enterprise and government users and third party data processing providers.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Define and Scope Test Campaigns: Collaborate closely with design, systems, and solutions engineers to translate technical requirements and customer use-cases into rigorous, real-world test criteria.
  • Author Comprehensive Test Documentation: Develop detailed Flight Test Plans, including strategy, resources, and safety protocols, and create step-by-step Test Cards for flawless execution.
  • Lead Hands-on Testing: Conduct both bench and flight tests in the lab and field, operating ground control stations, monitoring data, and ensuring strict adherence to safety standards and plans.
  • Drive System Performance Analysis: Analyze test data to draw clear conclusions, generating detailed, accurate, and timely reports for engineering and product teams.
  • Influence Product Lifecycle: Act as a critical feedback source, translating test results into actionable recommendations for design improvements, bug fixes, and enhanced performance.
  • Become a subject-matter-expert: Develop in depth knowledge on Auterion hardware and software, including Skynode, PX4, AuterionOS, Auterion Mission Control, and Auterion Suite
  • Maintain Operational Flight Proficiency: Serve as a fully proficient Flight Test Pilot, capable of executing test missions and maintaining full command of all test vehicles when required.

Qualifications and Skills:

This role demands a blend of technical mastery, methodical rigor, and a proactive, problem-solving mindset—qualities that drive product excellence and align with our core values: Be Bold, Own the Outcome, and Team Over Players.

  • Engineering Excellence: B.Eng. or M.Sc. in Aerospace, Robotics, or a related engineering field.
  • Systematic Problem Solver: Proven ability to systematically test and debug complex systems, translating findings into clear, actionable feedback for the development team.
  • Hands-On Drone Expertise: Direct experience in flying and building drones or autonomous vehicles as well as proficiency in hardware assembly tasks like CAD design, 3D printing, soldering, mounting, and wiring of electronic subassemblies are a strong plus.
  • Test Engineering Mindset: A structured, procedure-oriented way of working with a meticulous attention to detail. Prior professional experience in a dynamic testing environment (aviation, automotive, or robotics) is a strong plus.
  • Software Knowledge: Experience with the PX4 ecosystem is a significant advantage.
  • Regulatory & Operational Readiness: Knowledge of EU safety regulations regarding testing and flying UAS is required. You must hold or be able to obtain the EU-Drone License A1/A3 (A2 is a plus) and must be an EU citizen.
