Fleet Underwriter

The Role

As a Fleet Underwriter, you will play a pivotal role in underwriting and managing a book of mid-sized and large truck fleet accounts, including Auto Liability, Auto Physical Damage, Motor Truck Cargo, Truckers General Liability, and Non-Trucking Liability coverages.  You will be responsible for both top and bottom-line results. Your expertise and experience in risk assessment, pricing, and portfolio management will directly contribute to the profitability and sustainability of our book of trucking business. This role is for someone energetic and responsive in managing time-sensitive transactions in a fast-paced environment while adhering meticulously to guidelines and actively identifying areas of improvement in our underwriting technology and processes.

Responsibilities:

Risk Assessment

  • Evaluate, analyze, and underwrite mid-sized to large truck fleet submissions, ensuring alignment with company risk appetites and underwriting guidelines.
  • Manage your assigned fleet portfolio to meet specific targets for profitability, growth, and mix of risk.
  • Collaborate closely with Growth and Customer Experience teams to ensure that they can quickly respond to external inquiries regarding transactions within your assigned fleet portfolio.
  • Participate in providing direction and training to the Growth and Customer Experience teams regarding best practices for responding to inquiries regarding fleet transactions.

Compliance and Innovation

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and company policies in all underwriting activities.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting guidelines, tools, and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Please note: This position offers the flexibility of remote work or a hybrid arrangement based on the candidate's location.

Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of commercial auto underwriting experience is a must, with a strong focus on fleet accounts.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial auto insurance products, market dynamics, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in underwriting tools and technology.

Benefits

Compensation:

The Expected base pay for the role will range from $93000-$125000 per year at the commencement of employment.

However, base pay will be determined on an individualized basis, including geographical location within the US, and is only part of the total compensation package, which also includes discretionary bonus and other Cover Whale-sponsored benefits.
