Oversee NYC Parks' mission ensuring a world-class park system through strategic initiatives and effective leadership in collaboration with city agencies and community organizations.
NYC Parks is the steward of more than 30,000 acres of land – 14 percent of New York City – including more than 5,000 individual properties ranging from Coney Island Beach and Central Park to community gardens and Greenstreets. We operate more than 800 athletic fields and nearly 1,000 playgrounds, 1,800 basketball courts, 550 tennis courts, 65 public pools, 51 recreational facilities, 15 nature centers, 14 golf courses and 14 miles of beaches. We care for 1,200 monuments and 23 historic house museums. We look after 660,000 street trees, and five million more in parks. We are New York City’s principal providers of recreational and athletic facilities and programs. We are home to free concerts, world-class sports events, and cultural festivals.
Major Responsibilities
- Under the executive review of the Commissioner, with the broadest latitude for the exercise of independent judgment, initiative and scope of action, oversee core efforts related to NYC Parks' mission of growing and maintaining a world-class park system.
- Represent Parks and work closely with partners in city agencies, community organizations and others to manage and cultivate existing and new relationships.
- Report to the Commissioner on division activities and the status of projects and initiatives. Work to incorporate the Commissioner’s priorities and goals into division operations.
- Utilize a data-driven approach in forming operational plans and responsibly allocating resources across agency divisions.
- Work closely with other senior leaders and the Commissioner to develop strategic initiatives and key programs to further the Agency's mission.
- Provide effective and inspiring leadership and serve as a valuable contributing member to the Parks’ top leadership team.
