Financial Reporting Lead

The Role

The Financial Control team looks after consolidation and reporting of the Group’s financial results, technical accounting and financial policies and controls. 

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the Finance Manager (Reporting focus) will manage the Group’s consolidated statutory financial reporting and audit process, and act as a backup to the Finance Manager (Consolidation focus). 

Whilst this role does not have direct reports at the current time, this may change in the next 12-18 months. Meanwhile the successful candidate will work closely with the team’s Senior Accountants, including providing them coaching and feedback.

*This role can be performed on a part time (4 days/week) basis, with the exception of the peak periods for statutory reporting (early July to mid August, and early January to mid February) where this role will require a commitment to working full time.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the group’s statutory financial reporting processes, including:

  • Project management of the half-year and full-year consolidated financial statement process, and local statutory financial statements, which includes working with key stakeholders to ensure delivery in line with timetables and task allocations
  • Detailed review of consolidated primary statements and disclosures, including monitoring developments in AASBs to ensure SEEK’s financial statements remain compliant with disclosure requirements
  • Detailed review of all local statutory financial statements, ensuring they are prepared in compliance with local regulations (the Consolidation Finance Manager and Senior Manager will also assist with this task as necessary to manage capacity)
  • Ensuring any M&A activity and other significant transactions are appropriately disclosed
  • Managing stakeholder reviews of financial reports, including obtaining and addressing stakeholder feedback, whilst also providing guidance and feedback to the Senior Accountants contributing to the reporting process
  • Managing the group and local external audit processes, with support from the Group Financial Controller
  • Managing process for letters of financial support and provision of standalone balance sheets for annual solvency declarations
  • Responding and adapting to changing circumstances, including encouraging / motivating the team through uncertainty
  • Promoting and role-modelling a culture of innovation, continuous learning and improved outcomes

Statutory financial reporting process maintenance, including:

  • Ensuring there are adequate controls in place to mitigate risks in the financial reporting process
  • Identifying and rolling out process improvements to aid with efficiencies, controls, and scalability

Support other Financial Control activities, including:

  • Backup for the Finance Manager (Consolidation) if they are on leave
  • Accounting for significant transactions (acquisitions, disposals, etc)
  • Assisting with technical accounting support and other projects as they arise
  • Preparation or review of Audit Committee reporting
  • Assisting with projects to improve financial processes, policies or controls
  • Working with Internal Audit to understand and test effectiveness of financial controls
  • Periodic deep dives on specific balances to confirm compliance with Group policies
  • Assisting with other projects as they arise

Skills and experience

  • CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent), with 6+ years experience including preparing or auditing listed company statutory financial statements under IFRS (or a locally adopted version of IFRS)
  • Experience with multi-currency consolidations, as a preparer or auditor
  • Experience in managing projects with tight timelines and large numbers of stakeholders
  • Comfortable with navigating accounting standards to investigate appropriate accounting treatments
  • Ability to piece together complex accounting concepts and think ahead to any flow-on impacts of accounting decisions
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and demonstrated track record of effectively collaborating with different teams, including people and teams working remotely
  • Demonstrated ability and passion to coach and mentor team members
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Organised, great at prioritising and comfortable being “hands on”
