Work Schedule: AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday)

Compensation range:  $2,000 - $3,000 AUD / Monthly

Role Overview: Our client is seeking a highly organized and strategic Finance Manager to lead their financial operations. In this pivotal role, you will not just be crunching numbers; you will be the financial right-hand to the Business Manager. You will oversee the end-to-end finance function, from supervising a bookkeeping team and managing strict month-end deadlines to providing high-level cash flow insights and budget reporting. This role requires a leader who can manage confidential executive data with integrity, navigate the nuances of the Australian Not-for-Profit (NFP) sector, and drive process improvements within a dynamic, values-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Financial Leadership & Remote Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a predominantly finance team, ensuring high performance, accuracy, and professional development.
  • Act as the primary point of escalation for complex financial queries and provide clear, actionable insights to the Business Manager and executive leadership.
  • Champion a culture of integrity, confidentiality, and service excellence within the finance department.

2. Strategic Reporting, Budgeting & Cashflow

  • Own the Month-End Close process, ensuring all financial reports are accurate and delivered on time.
  • Manage comprehensive cash flow forecasting and monitoring to ensure operational liquidity.
  • Lead the preparation and monitoring of annual budgets, providing variance analysis and recommendations to leadership.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports for the Board and Executive team, translating complex data into clear business insights.

3. Operational Finance & Compliance

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and Bank Reconciliations.
  • Payroll Management: Manage and process payroll with strict confidentiality, particularly regarding sensitive executive-level data.
  • Ensure full compliance with Australian accounting standards and regulatory requirements relevant to the NFP sector.
  • Lead the preparation for annual audits and serve as the main liaison for external auditors.

4. Systems & Process Improvement

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for Xero, ensuring the system is utilized to its full potential.
  • Continuously review and improve internal controls, financial systems, and workflows to increase efficiency.
  • Manage digital filing and collaboration using Google Suite and MS Office 365 (SharePoint/Planner).

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of finance/accounting experience with at least 12 months of experience in a leadership or senior role. 
  • Expert-level proficiency in Xero is essential.
  • Strong command of MS Excel (complex formulas/reporting) and Google Suite.
  • Confidentiality: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive payroll and executive data with absolute discretion.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal English skills.
  • Analytical: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to "look beyond the numbers" and provide insights.
  • Attributes: Honest, reliable, adaptable to change, and possesses a collaborative "can-do" attitude suitable for a faith-based organization.
  • Experience in the Not-for-Profit (NFP), Charity, or Religious/Church sector is a massive bonus.
