The Opportunity

We are looking for a Controller to serve as the organization's senior financial leader. This position will oversee all accounting functions, reporting directly to executive leadership and playing a key role on the leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Reporting

  • Own the complete month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Produce reliable financial statements, P&L analysis, and variance reporting
  • Deliver clear, actionable financial insights to executive leadership
  • Build and maintain accurate forecasting and cash flow management tools

Construction Accounting Operations

  • Oversee job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and project profitability analysis
  • Manage AIA billing processes, including retainage tracking and pay applications
  • Ensure job costing accuracy is trusted across production and sales teams
  • Streamline commercial accounting workflows to eliminate bottlenecks

Day-to-Day Accounting Management

  • Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, collections, and payroll coordination
  • Ensure all reconciliations are completed accurately and on schedule
  • Maintain clean, organized financial records across multiple platforms (QuickBooks Online, spreadsheets, job systems)

Process Improvement & Systems Building

  • Standardize accounting processes and implement best practices
  • Improve overhead management toward targeted efficiency goals
  • Build scalable financial systems to support continued company growth
  • Identify and resolve financial process inefficiencies

Strategic Collaboration

  • Partner closely with production, sales, and operations teams
  • Contribute to executive planning and strategy discussions
  • Support leadership in evaluating business performance and growth opportunities
  • Foster strong cross-functional communication and alignment

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required)
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Construction or job-cost accounting background (experience across painting contractors, trade contractors, construction or similar industries)
  • Strong QuickBooks Online proficiency and ability to work across multiple platforms
  • Demonstrated experience managing AR, AP, payroll coordination, and month-end close
  • Proven ability to work independently in fast-paced, high-volume environments
  • Excellent communication skills and executive presence

Preferred Experience

  • Controller or senior accounting manager experience in small to mid-sized businesses
  • Familiarity with construction project management systems
  • Experience building accounting systems and implementing process improvements
  • Background in transitioning informal operations into structured financial controls
  • Experience working with external consultants and managing small accounting teams

Benefits
