Role overview
As a Field Service Technician at Standard Bots, you are the hands-on technical expert who keeps our customers' robots running at peak performance. You'll travel to customer sites across your territory to install, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain Standard Bots systems — while serving as a trusted technical resource and ambassador for the brand. You're as comfortable diagnosing a mechanical issue on a factory floor as you are walking a customer through a programming question over video call. You take pride in fast, accurate resolutions, clean documentation, and relationships built on trust and expertise.
What you'll do
• Provide on-site technical support for customers including diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and optimization of Standard Bots robots
• Perform installations, commissioning, and system integration at customer facilities
• Conduct preventive maintenance visits and safety inspections to ensure optimal robot performance
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and software issues both on-site and remotely
• Provide remote technical support via phone, email, and video conferencing when on-site visits are not required
• Train customers on robot operation, programming, and basic troubleshooting procedures
• Document all service activities — including ticket notes, parts usage, and resolution details — in our CRM system
• Manage spare parts inventory and ensure proper tools and equipment are available for service calls
• Collaborate with internal teams to escalate complex issues and contribute feedback for product improvements
• Achieve field service KPIs for ticket resolution and first-time fix rates
What you'll bring
• 2–4 years of hands-on experience in robotics, industrial automation, or electromechanical systems
• Associate degree or higher in a technical field, engineering, mechatronics, or related discipline
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with proven field service experience
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to travel extensively (60–80% field time)
Technical Skills
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and multimeters
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, wiring diagrams, and schematics
• Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in various manufacturing environments
Soft Skills & Mindset
• Excellent customer service skills with professional communication abilities
• Enjoys customer-facing interactions and building strong relationships
• Able to systematically analyze problems within defined procedures and best practices to achieve appropriate resolution
• Highly organized with ability to manage multiple service tickets and tasks simultaneously while effectively prioritizing
• Self-starter who is resourceful and initiates work without specific instruction
• Flexible and works professionally in dynamic, fast-paced environments; comfortable with ambiguity
• Comfortable working from home office approximately 20% of the time and in the field 60 80%
• Located within 1 hour of a major airport (preferred for territory coverage)
Nice to have
• Previous experience with collaborative robots (cobots) or industrial robot maintenance and repair
• Experience with PLC systems, industrial controllers, or automation networks
• Familiarity with machine vision systems, sensors, grippers, and end-of-arm tooling
• Programming knowledge in Python, C++, or robot programming languages
• Experience with Linux/Ubuntu operating systems and networking fundamentals
• Certifications in robotics, electrical safety, or related technical disciplines
The salary range for this role is $80,000 to $120,000, depending on experience. We are open to a variety of seniority levels for this role and will build compensation packages that are commensurate with seniority and skill level. Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Standard Bots. All Full-Time Employees are eligible for Employee Stock Options. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees.
