About the Role As a Field Service Engineer at Lightship, you will play a critical role in supporting our groundbreaking all-electric RV trailer fleet. Reporting to the Service Engineering Manager within our Operations organization, you'll serve as the primary technical resource for our customers while helping to build our service infrastructure from the ground up. This role combines hands-on technical problem solving with strategic service development in a fast paced, growth oriented environment. Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary technical support resource for our initial customer fleet, diagnosing and resolving complex issues with our all-electric RV systems
  • Travel to provide on-site customer support across various US locations
  • Develop and document service procedures, troubleshooting guides, and repair protocols for electric drivetrain, battery systems, and RV components
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to identify and implement product improvements based on field experience
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, providing exceptional technical support and collecting valuable feedback to share within the organization
  • Create a knowledge base of common issues and solutions to support scalable customer service
  • Analyze service data to identify trends and recommend preventive measures
  • Contribute to the development of remote diagnostic tools and procedures
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 0-3 years of experience designing, building, or maintaining complex electromechanical systems.
  • Hands-on experience with electromechanical building and maintenance equipment
  • Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex, multidisciplinary issues with little or no oversight
  • Strong communication and documentation skills with the ability to explain technical concepts and issues to a wide audience from engineering leaders to customers and non-technical staff
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (up to 70-80%) for the first 6-12 months, with ongoing travel requirements thereafter. Expect travel to decrease to 30-40% as service organization and network scales
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with wire harnessing tools and best practices
  • Experience working with high voltage electrical systems, battery technology, and power electronics
  • Experience working on collegiate automotive hardware design teams - such as FSAE, EcoCAR
  • Experience with ECU troubleshooting and maintenance tools including CAN bus communication and firmware updating tools and methods
  • Demonstrated experience with diagnostic tools and procedures for electrical and mechanical systems

  • Onsite/Hybrid Work
    Hybrid roles at Lightship require onsite work from our offices Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Tuesdays and Fridays are optional work from home days, when your work will be executed more successfully from home. Speak to the hiring manager to learn more.
