🌎 While we hire almost anywhere in the world, we have a preference for someone to reside in the following locations for this role. However, if you feel qualified, we welcome you to apply regardless of location. No matter what, working hours must overlap with Pacific Standard Time for at least 30 hours/week.

As a Field Engineer, you work at the cutting edge of Sourcegraph's technology and of the AI coding industry. You will collaborate with some of the largest and most technologically complex businesses in the world to help them navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of software development, integrate Sourcegraph's software deeply into their SDLC, and improve the workflows of thousands of software developers. You will work closely with your Field Engineering teams to become deep technical experts in the product and industry, finding new and advanced ways to integrate Sourcegraph within our customers' businesses to maximize impact.
📅 Within one month, you will…
- Start building a trusting relationship with your peers on the Field Engineering, Software Engineering, and various account teams.
- Learn about our product, our value proposition, our customers, our teams, and our processes.
- Dive deeply into our customer use cases and advanced implementations of Sourcegraph’s technology to support those use cases.
- Join customer and prospect calls with some of our largest (Fortune 500) customers to understand their technical challenges and needs.
📅 Within three months, you will…
- Work directly with Sales and CSM counterparts to lead our customers to success: troubleshooting challenging issues, understanding custom use cases and designing solutions to fulfill them, and developing strong relationships with customer power users.
- Educate and enable technical admins within our customers to successfully configure and subsequently maintain their environments through best practices.
- Help optimize internal customer success metrics by partnering with technical admins and users.
📅 Within six months and beyond, you will…
- Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering on what you observe and learn from customers to drive product improvements.
- Work closely with Sales and CSM to improve the overall customer experience.
- Create content in collaboration with Marketing based on your customer experience and findings.
- Iterate on existing processes, templates, and tools to better service our customers.

- Become a heavily trusted advisor and expert on Sourcegraph’s products and, more importantly, how our customers use them. You will be heavily relied upon both internally and externally.
- Consistently design and implement efficient solutions to the most advanced problems and use cases our customers face using Sourcegraph’s products
About you
You are an enthusiastic, driven, and results-oriented technologist who shares our values and is passionate about designing novel technical solutions that help customers achieve technical success. You’re a self-starter who thrives in nebulous environments and derives energy from living on the cutting edge of technology.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience as a Software Engineer. You have a passion for using your strong technical background to directly support complex customers.
- Work experience in a technical, customer-facing role with a deep understanding and strong working knowledge of the end-to-end software development lifecycle and the AI coding landscape.
- Strong scripting abilities with familiarity across a wide variety of languages and frameworks.
- Work experience running large-scale migrations, code modernizations, refactors, and/or platform upgrades.
- Work experience delivering highly technical solutions either directly to specific customers or to a variety of internal stakeholders.
- Ability to identify issues and opportunities as well as solutions to solve both internal and external problems or gaps. You have a strategic mindset with the ability to identify shortcomings and opportunities that can be shared internally and in future customer engagements.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate fluently with a wide range of stakeholders, internal and external, across engineers, management, champions, and administrators.
- Work experience providing technical training to customers on product features, troubleshooting, configuration, and organizational best practices.
- An organized approach to work, with demonstrated ability to proactively scope, plan, execute, and manage multiple differing customer engagements concurrently.
- Ability to communicate and explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
- Working experience with a range of application environments, complexities, and deployment methods, including both on-premise and cloud-native architectures.
- Your working hours overlap with 8am-4pm PT for at least 10 hours per week so we have time to collaborate synchronously when necessary.
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience deploying, managing, or optimizing Large Language Models (LLMs) in production environments.
- DevRel, DevEx, or Developer Advocate experience

Compensation
💸 We pay you an above-average salary because we want to hire the best people who are fully focused on helping Sourcegraph succeed, not worried about paying bills. As an open and transparent company that values competitive compensation, our compensation ranges are visible to every single Sourcegraph teammate.
Your salary is determined by your pay band for the IC4 job level. For determining pay bands, we use a number of market and data-driven salary sources, along with your location zone, and target the high-end of the range to ensure we’re always paying above market regardless of where you live in the world. Both U.S. and international locations are divided into one of four zones, determined by the cost of labor index for each area. The salary for a successful candidate will be based on level, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and location zone. Please note that the salaries below may be adjusted in the future.
💰 The target compensation for this role is based on the IC4 pay band for your zone. The start of the IC4 pay band for each zone is listed below:
- Zone 2: $144,000
- Zone 3: $108,000
- Zone 4: $72,000
