Farm Operations Technician

The Company’s proprietary genome engineering platform enables extensive, multiplex gene edits to remove key biological barriers, add protective human transgenes, and inactivate endogenous retroviruses. EGEN-2784, a genetically engineered porcine kidney, is the Company’s lead program and is currently being evaluated in a multi-patient Expanded Access study at MGH. eGenesis is headquartered in Cambridge, MA.  PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for operating large farm equipment at the eGenesis - WI facility
  • Operation of skid loaders, tractors, manure management equipment, and hay equipment
  • Activities involving large farm equipment include but are not limited to carcass management/composting, spreading solid and liquid manure, pasture mowing, and unloading deliveries
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and repairs when needed
  • Responsible for landscaping and general grounds upkeep
  • Operation of lawn mower tractor (Zero Turn, AWD), weedwhacker, leaf blower, snowplow, and chainsaw
  • Activities include but are not limited to lawn mowing/trimming, tree clearing/pruning, snow plowing (farm roads and sidewalks), and spraying weeds
  • Responsible for basic maintenance of both animal facilities and lab facilities
  • Follow preventative maintenance schedules and work closely with all vendors of all equipment and systems
  • Operation of hand tools, power tools, welding machines, oxyacetylene torch
  • Participate in daily care of pigs at the animal facilities, including cleaning and upkeep of the facility
  • Feeding, caring for, and handling swine including a weekend and holiday rotation
  • Follow safe work practices and enforce health and safety regulations 
  • Correct unsafe acts and conditions and ensure equipment is properly maintained
  • Report and investigate all accidents/incidents
  • Inspect personal area and take remedial action to minimize or eliminate hazards
  • Complete required training assignments, forms, and other paperwork
  • Adhere to eGenesis biosecurity requirements for the Main Facility and Quarantine Facility
  • Due to the nature of operating a research animal facility, there is potential to be asked to work overtime hours
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) minimum
  • 1+ years of experience in large animal care and handling
  • 1+ years of experience in facility and equipment maintenance
  • Working knowledge of animal husbandry, including nutrition, reproduction, and safety
  • Basic working knowledge facility maintenance, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking skills
  • Basic use of Microsoft office suite of applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
  • Must not have any other interaction with pigs outside of the company
  • CDL driver’s license and welding experience desired but not required
  • Strong attention to operational planning and follow through
  • Working knowledge of data collection and recording
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work in different environments, including farm, shop, office, laboratory, and animal husbandry environments in varying weather conditions. The employee frequently is required to be walking, stooping, climbing, and crouching. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust to focus.
