we need.

We are looking for Product Designers (User Experience / User Interface Consultants) who appreciate and think about what went behind seemingly small design decisions, like the haptic feedback when using an iPod scroll wheel, the elastic bounce when finger scrolling to the end of a list or the clicking shut of an AirPods case.

You are not just simply someone who has a love for solving product design challenges, you also have a deep human drive to coach and help those around you be better and more capable people, and are a champion for continuous improvement of the practices in your team.

You are able to self-manage with a consulting client. You have a history of working with a multi-disciplinary team of product designers and developers; leading and executing the product's user experience and user interface design.

As a Product Designer (User Experience / User Interface Consultant) at No Moss Co, you can expect to:

  • Work with clients to understand detailed requirements and design complete user experiences that meet client needs and vision.
  • Contribute to design practices that support lean and agile product development, such as design systems.
  • Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes that lead to intuitive user experiences.
  • Facilitate in discovering the client’s product vision by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping and user-testing experiences for digital products.
  • Learn and apply solid grasp of team orientated workshops where possible, for example, facilitation of Design Sprints and/or related co- design activities with stakeholders.
  • Uphold, refine, and follow the Design Practice’s standards for design file setup, management and hygiene.
  • Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user journeys and mockups optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces.
  • Identify design problems and devise elegant solutions that are enterprise grade.
  • Contribute to strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions and features.
  • Take a user-centred design approach and rapidly test and iterate your designs, based on feedback gathered via the client, your team or the end-user.
  • Learn and apply a solid grasp of user-centred design (UCD), planning and conducting user research, user testing sessions, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, heuristic analysis, usability and accessibility concerns.
  • Work with clients to understand detailed requirements and design complete user experiences that meet client needs and vision.
  • Apply your experience in UX design best practices to design solutions, and a deep understanding of mobile-first and responsive design.
  • Be an advocate for the user experience and keeping promises on team-assigned scope.
  • Champion and advocate for design, within No Moss or representing the No Moss Product Design Practice on client-side.
  • Learn and build on fields of expertise, such as improved UX/UI design practices.
  • Contribute to the culture and uplift of the No Moss Product Design Practice for example, taking part in internal design activities
  • Learn and build a cross-functional skill set in other product delivery disciplines, such as but not limited to agile delivery and software development.

Requirements

  • You have at least two years of professional UX/UI design experience, or can tangibly demonstrate you have the capability that is comparable to someone with at least 2 years of professional UX/UI experience.
  • You have experience in using UX and UI design best practices to design solutions and an understanding of mobile-first and responsive design.
  • You have experience in user-centred design (UCD), planning and conducting user research, user testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, heuristic analysis, usability and accessibility concerns.
  • You have an ability to learn and build on a field of expertise, such as improved UX/UI design practices.
  • An ability to learn and build a cross-functional skill set in other product delivery disciplines, such as but not limited to agile delivery and software development.
  • A positive outlook on helping to foster and shape the culture of our design team. You are passionate about new ideas and have an inclusive, supportive nature toward others.
  • Due to the nature of the role, you may be required to visit clients onsite on a regular basis.
  • While primarily working from home, you would be required to working physically together with a team around once per week.

As a consultancy, we provide a special rate card accessible only to non-profits; about 10% of our profits go directly toward our non-profit partners, including One Child and Cause Corps; and our skilled volunteering opportunities are directed toward the latter.

We, and hopefully you, want to learn and grow and #DoTheUngooglable. We have a deep culture of teaching and learning: “a rolling stone gathers no moss”, looking after each other: “it’s okay to not be okay”, and customer delight: “a certain polish."

We work with clients, from visionary founders with a dream, to budding scale-ups with millions in funding and market traction, to well-established enterprises in the top ASX 20. We work across a wide variety of industries such as; retail, non-profit, banking, and aged care.

you need.

A consultancy, a product incubator, and an innovation hub that prizes three things:

  1. a system of radical transparency. We have an environment of psychological safety, where we are safe to fail. We talk about the customers we lose openly and the reasons why we lost them so we can talk about how to improve together; We have an internally transparent salary grading and rate card, and We strive for transparency to allow our people to focus on making things (and each other) better.
  2. a place that values drive. Expect to be asked what your purpose in life is. You’ll spend your career with us in its renewal, pursuit, refinement and sometimes rejection of this declared purpose as you discover something else.
  3. an ecosystem of wholeness. We like you for all of you; not just the ‘work face’ you’ve been putting on. There’s room for diversity of thought at no moss, and we’re privileged to continually better our ecosystem toward that end.

you like.

Getting stuff done. A rigorous process that uplifts people and enables them to be the rolling stone that attains a certain polish. You want to add to these organisational learnings and make us better. You want to share what you already know for the betterment of your colleagues, freely and joyfully. You enjoy putting the extra (smartly chosen) mile in to not work hard, but work effectively. You like conversations where we celebrate failing – personal, team-based, organisational – and subsequent learning.

you expect.

Other people who are purpose-driven. People who value psychological safety. A place where people are good at listening and incredible at taking appropriate action. To be free to challenge the status quo and each other to greater things. An ecosystem of people who are outside their comfort zone nearly all the time, working mostly in their learning zone, occasionally edging into their terror zone.

we like.

People who are connected to our story and are inspired to be part of a community. People who want to give back to ecosystems that are finding new, more human ways of working.

we expect.

People who do what they say and say what they’ll do. Outcome-driven people who have a history of trying – resulting in both successes and learnings from their failures. People who love either strategic consulting, products and/or technological innovation.

our people.

Ask each other and the people we work with - “How are you?” and listen. They independently seek to learn and grow and are motivated to teach and grow others. We rise to challenges and are resourceful in solving problems. And importantly we celebrate each other’s success.

If you have read all of this and feel that No Moss is the organisation for you, but this position isn’t quite what you are after or that you're not meeting all the job requirements, please get in touch regardless via [email protected]. Tell us your purpose and what you'd like to be doing, so we can give it some consideration for positions in the future.

Please note unsolicited resumes from employment agencies or other third parties will not be considered.
