We are looking for a candidate to buy commodities like casting, fabrication, forging, machining etc. that are essential for our company’s day-to-day operations. This position will be responsible for executing day-to-day purchasing based on demand, issuing purchase orders, and closely following up with suppliers to ensure timely deliveries.
Requirements
- Evaluate requisitions received from various internal departments for accuracy and completeness and resolve any discrepancies.
- Identify, evaluate and establish optimal suppliers for products and/or services based on the lowest total cost to company considering quality, availability, reliability and delivery for the local and global sourcing requirements of the company.
- Identify, evaluate and establish optimal logistics providers for the local and global sourcing requirements of the company.
- Negotiate pricing and terms with identified suppliers to obtain the lowest total cost within company’s established guidelines on commercial terms and conditions.
- Prepare, process and distribute purchase orders to suppliers. Expedite delivery of products and/or services and facilitate payment to suppliers.
- Review Purchase Order acknowledgment for compliance to agreed-upon price and terms daily. Verify accuracy of material to purchase order or print requirements. Verify accuracy of supplier invoices to ensure payment terms and any negotiated discounts.
- Satisfactorily resolve and document purchase order discrepancy such as non-conformances, shortages, or price variances in coordination with Engineering, Operation and Quality departments.
- Effectively communicate with suppliers, facilitating resolution of their questions or issues adequately with an objective of getting products and/or services right the first time.
- Closely monitor progress of all Purchase Orders, expedite and/or make necessary adjustments based on sound judgment and logic to ensure a seamless supply chain.
- Interacts daily with other global manufacturing operations in facilitating their global sourcing requirements.
- Observes all safety rules, uses all personal protective equipment.
- Performs special duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in engineering, preferably Mechanical or Production Engineering from a reputed University or College.
- A minimum of 1-3 years’ related work experience
- Six Sigma Green Belt is a plus
TECHNICAL / FUNCTION SPECIFIC:
- Ability to read and understand engineering specifications and drawings.
- Strong math and reading skills
- Well-developed planning and organizational skills
- Excellent negotiation skills
- Strong computer experience. The candidate should easily be able to use company ERP/SAP system, MS Office products such as Excel to mine and analyze data
- Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours per day, though possibly more
- Frequently required to stand and/or walk, up to 8 hours per day, and make frequent trips to supplier facilities.
- Must be able to travel at least 50% to supplier facilities. Majority of suppliers are local to Ahmedabad, a few are in distant locations.
- Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment when in the manufacturing area and supplier facilities, including, but not limited to, safety glasses and safety shoes
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds independently, as needed
