We are seeking an accomplished Executive Director, SQL Infrastructure and Operations to lead our enterprise database infrastructure strategy and operations. This role is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, optimization, and support of robust, secure, and scalable SQL environments across our multi-tenant and international footprint.

This is a strategic and hands-on leadership position for a highly experienced database professional who thrives in complex environments and is passionate about data performance, reliability, and operational excellence. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Strategy Develop and execute a comprehensive roadmap for SQL infrastructure across cloud and on-premise environments.
    • Lead and mentor a global team of database engineers and administrators.
    • Align SQL operations with broader enterprise architecture and business objectives.
  • Infrastructure Management
    • Oversee design and maintenance of highly available, multi-tenant SQL Server environments.
    • Ensure database systems are secure, compliant, and aligned with international data governance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
    • Drive standardization and automation of SQL infrastructure and operational processes.
  • Operations & Optimization
    • Lead incident response and root-cause analysis for critical database issues.
    • Manage capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimization strategies across diverse workloads and geographies.
    • Define and monitor SLAs/OLAs, ensuring 24/7 availability and disaster recovery capabilities.
    • Oversee patching, backups, monitoring, and incident management
    • Maintain infrastructure and database health through proactive monitoring and logging
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Partner with application teams, DevOps, InfoSec, and business units to meet evolving data requirements.
    • Represent SQL Infrastructure in architectural reviews, audits, and executive discussions.
    • Provide regular reporting on health, performance, and cost metrics of the SQL estate.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience managing enterprise SQL environments (SQL Server, Azure SQL, etc.).
  • 5 years proven leadership and management experience with direct responsibility for global, multi-tenant database operations and support staff.
  • Proven experience managing IT infrastructure in a large-scale enterprise environment, including high-availability systems, disaster recovery planning, and performance tuning
  • Expertise in high-availability architectures, replication, sharding, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Strong experience with SQL Server tools (SSMS, SSIS, SSRS, etc.), cloud-based solutions (e.g., Azure, AWS RDS), and automation platforms (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell).
  • Familiarity with international compliance and data residency laws.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Strategic Thinking and Execution
  • ITIL certfication
  • Certifications in database administration (Oracle, Azure, AWS, etc. a plus
  • Experience with AWS/Azure Postgres, Databricks, Snowflake is a plus

The salary range reflected is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this position is $150,000 - $200,000 annually. Pay varies by work location and may also depend on job -related knowledge, skills, experience and abilities of the successful candidate.
