What is the opportunity?

The Academic Operations team (Exams and Assessments) plays a vital role in delivering smooth assessment experiences and ensuring compliance with the university's academic regulations. Their responsibilities include overseeing a range of marking processes, such as standard marking, moderation, double-blind marking, and the external examination of student summative submissions. The team also manages and updates module briefs, ensuring approval from external examiners where required. They are responsible for identifying and reporting cases of academic misconduct, crosschecking and verifying data for Module Panels and Examination Boards, and hosting Internal Boards attended by FutureLearn Delivery teams. In addition, they manage assessment workflows in Wiseflow—the university’s assessment platform—by updating student records for extensions and other changes. The team collaborates closely with various departments across the university, particularly with Student Support and Academic teams, and provides training and documentation to support academics in using marking platforms and other assessment tools.

What success looks like:

  • Facilitate and monitor marking, moderation, and external examination processes.
  • Manage the creation, updates, and approvals of module briefs.
  • Identify and report on cases of academic misconduct.
  • Administer data entries and workflows within the Wiseflow system.
  • Support mark entry and data management in the SITs client system.
  • Oversee a full portfolio of programs within the Brunel partnership, ensuring all processes comply with timelines and regulations.
  • As you grow in the role, you will take on additional responsibilities across dynamic programs, particularly as SITs becomes a more integral part of the assessment process.

What you bring to the table:

  • Strong experience in exams and assessments administration, ideally in higher education.
  • Knowledge of assessment workflows, marking processes, and academic regulations.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with assessment systems (e.g., Wiseflow, SITs) and data management tools is not required but would be an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
