EVP of Logistics Hardware Engineering

TLDR

Lead the hardware development lifecycle for logistics robotics, overseeing cost reduction and functional improvement across multiple projects while collaborating with executives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Leadership — Oversee end-to-end hardware development across all logistics programs. Partner with each product's VP to direct and manage teams across mechanical design, electrical design, and firmware development — including progress tracking, risk management, and ensuring committed milestones are met.
  • Hardware Architecture & Technical Decision-Making — Define and own optimal hardware architecture decisions that ensure each product meets its business requirements across functionality, reliability, and cost targets.

  • People & Budget Management — Partner with VPs to lead team people management across hiring and retention, and exercise control over headcount costs and development budgets.

  • Manufacturing & Cross-Functional Alignment — Collaborate with Manufacturing, Procurement, and QA/QC teams to establish scalable, sustainable mass-production and sourcing frameworks, and to build development processes that ensure all hardware meets applicable safety standards.
  • Required Qualifications

    Technical

  • Proven experience in hardware architecture design for robotic systems

  • Track record of developing and bringing to market hardware systems with multiple actuators, such as robot manipulators or equivalent complex mechanisms

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design

  • End-to-end experience from conceptual design through mass-production design

  • Solid working knowledge across the following technical domains of actuator systems:

  • Motor control systems and pneumatics fundamentals

  • Sensor feedback control basics

  • Structural and durability design for mechanical systems

  • Practical experience or management experience in electrical design and firmware development

  • Design-for-manufacturing (DFM) experience for mass production and market introduction, including cost optimization through design

  • Leadership & Management

  • Demonstrated experience managing development teams of 10 or more engineers, with verifiable evidence of:

  • Cross-team progress management and problem-solving

  • Technical judgment-driven decision-making

  • Development budget planning and management

  • Proven track record of bringing products to market with both speed and high reliability

  • Professional proficiency in both English and Japanese

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Development management experience at a startup

  • Hardware development experience with manipulator-equipped logistics or industrial robots

  • Track record in product cost-reduction initiatives — particularly through in-house component development or internalization strategies
