Role Overview: The Estimator / Planner serves as the vital "engine room" of the company’s operations, bridging the gap between engineering theory and workshop execution. This position is designed for a dedicated professional seeking a long-term career path within a family-operated firm that values technical precision and growth. The role involves calculating material requirements, coordinating with a premium vendor network, and orchestrating complex production schedules. While the position requires a strong foundation in engineering, the organization provides specialized training on internal machinery capabilities and regional logistics to ensure seamless project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Material Takeoffs

  • Review client drawings and specifications (SMP focus).
  • Perform accurate material takeoffs and calculate coating/painting requirements.
  • Prepare and send Requests for Quotes (RFQs) to Australian vendors.
  • Compile data to assist the Project Manager in finalizing client proposals.

Planning & Logistics

  • Coordinate material procurement to ensure on-time delivery to Cloncurry.
  • Training Provided: Learn local freight routes and lead times to predict delays before they happen.
  • Liaise directly with vendors via email and phone to track orders.

Production & Maintenance Scheduling

  • Plan workshop schedules based on material availability and machine capacity.
  • Training Provided: Learn the capabilities of our specific machinery to optimize fabrication workflows.

Use MaintainX to schedule internal maintenance, balancing production needs with machine uptime.

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Essential (Must Have):

  • Engineering Background: Proven experience in Structural, Mechanical, and Piping (SMP) engineering or Steel Fabrication. You must understand how things are built.
  • English Proficiency: Superior written and verbal English. You will be communicating directly with Australian suppliers and clients.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Strong analytical skills for precise estimating.
  • Tech Stack: Proficiency in Google Workspace (Gmail, Meet, Chat).

Beneficial (Nice to Have):

  • Basic CAD skills (AutoCAD or Fusion 360) for simple concept sketches.
  • Knowledge of industrial coating (blasting/painting) or rubber lining processes.

Technology & Software

  • Primary Communication: Google Chat & Meet.
  • Project Management: Fulcrum Pro (Training provided).
  • Maintenance Planning: MaintainX (Training provided).
