A print estimator's job is to estimate the cost of printing jobs and provide bids. The ideal individual will be an integral part of customer service and print workflow, has an awareness of unrelated activities and must be able to interact and successfully complete projects with pressmen, customers and salesmen.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating costs: Analyze documentation to estimate the cost of materials, labor, time, and production. They also evaluate the capabilities of the printing operation and the most economical way to produce the job.
Developing bids: Collaborate with customers and sales teams to create accurate bids and estimates.
Communicating with production: Communicate layout specifications and material choices to production workers.
Maintaining records: Keep accurate records and documentation for all estimates.
Finding cost savings: Develop knowledge of available materials and recommend cost saving opportunities.
Consulting: Consult with customers, sales, vendors, and other departments to discuss estimates and resolve issues.
Qualifications
Strong math, computer and analytical skills.
Ability to work well under tight deadlines for projects of various size and scope.
Positive “can do” customer focus and attitude.
Must have a comprehensive knowledge of all printing processes, paper, ink, computer operation and purchasing
Complete ability to calculate the quality of paper, ink, plates and the time required to complete each job.
Excellent customer service skills and follow-through ability.
Strong competencies with Adobe Creative Suites, Photoshop, Excel, Word, or ability to learn required software technologies.
Must be detail-oriented and accurate.
Experience using several different substrates and printing processes.
