Sinch SimpleTexting is looking for an experienced self-organized Engineering Manager who will lead a team of dedicated multidisciplinary engineers and QAs that own the core product and platform. You’ll be responsible for maintaining and operating critical software that is highly robust, scalable, available and distributed. You’re passionate about building high-performing teams, guiding, and coaching your team to develop skills and processes. 

  

As a leader, you will support a team that writes code, manages the product and supports our customers. This team has a high impact throughout the organisation, and it is paramount that it meets our level of excellence.  
 

You will become a part of an agile product & client-oriented team containing all roles required for autonomous decision making, planning and delivery. We have mature engineering processes including daily production releases evolved over the years yet startup like friendly and open for new ideas work environment.

What do you do in the role? 

  • Empower the team to own, operate, scale and maintain their services 
  • Institute development best practices to ensure the team produces high quality, well architected and supportable code 
  • Serve as the team’s engineering operations manager, working with our global operations team and managing communications with stakeholders and dependent teams 
  • Take ownership and accountability for the operational stability and security of the platform, including managing incidents, RCAs and customer support escalations  
  • Collaborate on delivery of roadmaps with Product Managers, Sales teams, Customer Support teams and Marketing teams to ensure the team has clear direction and priorities 
  • Plan and execute integrations and migrations of the Sinch SimpleTexting product and platform with the Sinch Engage product and platform 
  • Manage employee career development by providing coaching and mentoring to junior engineers while guiding senior contributors to maximize their potential 
  • Complete performance check-ins collaborate with team members on their objectives and provide a clear path for progression through personal development plans 

Requirements

What experience/qualities you need to bring with you 

  • Strong software engineering experience with recent technical leadership/management responsibilities 
  • Strong engineering operations experience (observability, incident management, RCAs) 
  • Proven experience with AWS or similar cloud platform providers and utilising infrastructure as code 
  • Experience building, launching and running mission-critical, high-performing, distributed, fault tolerant systems 
  • Excellent English speaking communication skills and can influence both technical individual contributors and business stakeholders 

 

Nice to have

  • Experience with messaging products and platforms 
  • Experience managing distributed teams 
  • Experience as a Delivery Manager or Project Manager 
  • Languages other than English (namely Russian)
