Your mission
As the
Engineering Manager for a newly formed squad, you will work on the deskbird core product - our desk management solution that enables workplace and facility managers to configure and maintain their office layouts and floor plans. You’ll empower your squad, establish effective delivery processes, and
remain hands-on in building key features across the frontend, backend, and cloud infrastructure. Your time will be split roughly 50/50 between leading and developing your team and contributing directly to technical concepts and solutions.
In this role you will
- Enable facility managers to configure and maintain their office structure and floor plan in deskbird. Track data about office presence from various sources and provide insightful analytics about the workplace and workforce.
- Lead and mentor the ~4 engineers in the squad by facilitating team meetings, driving continuous improvement, as well as conducting regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and personal development conversations. You'll work closely with a product manager and a designer, who are embedded in the squad but report to the product department.
- Actively contribute full-stack solutions across the Angular frontend, Node.js backend, and GCP infrastructure directly impacting our 150,000+ monthly active users.
- Foster a culture of end-to-end ownership, from rapid experimentation to building scalable, measurable solutions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, UX, and other engineering squads to align on strategies and technical best practices.
- Leverage AI code generation and continuously develop the processes for yourself and your squad, plus contribute to managing the whole deskbird product & engineering organization through the upcoming changes.
What you need to be successful
- 5+ years of experience in full-stack web application development (Angular and Node.js preferred).
- Proven experience leading engineers and projects as a tech lead, engineering manager, or in a similar role.
- Ability to judge when to move fast with prototypes and when to invest in long-term, scalable engineering.
- Excellent communicator, fluent in English, with strong stakeholder alignment skills.
- Solid understanding of the latest developments in AI code generation, with hands-on experience using state-of-the-art tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code or similar) without compromising code quality and architecture.
- The following are a plus:
- Strong experience in event driven, distributed architectures.
- Experience working with GCP/Firebase.
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
