The Engineering Manager - Servicing will be a key member of R+ J’s Technology team and will report directly to the Head of Product Engineering. You’ll manage and coach a team of senior engineers who are responsible for the smooth operation and automation of our product lines. You’ll be expected to autonomously develop, improve, and monitor these systems from a software engineering perspective, as well as work with the product team to deliver new servicing capabilities, especially in a partner-facing capacity. 


In this role, you will:

  • Lead a nimble, high-impact full-stack engineering team which owns the servicing of our product lines, primarily: Rhino Security Deposit Insurance, Rhino Renter Guarantee, Rhino Loss of Employment Insurance, Jetty Deposit, Jetty Protect, and Jetty Credit.
  • Work with the growth and product teams to develop new servicing capabilities for internal operations teams and for partners/customers. 
  • Provide technical and organizational leadership within the engineering team and to external stakeholders.
  • Guide technical discussions within your team, be a subject matter expert to the rest of the engineering teams, and have strategic influence beyond the engineering org.
  • Create opportunities for the individuals on your team to grow, learn, fail gracefully, and succeed.
  • Contribute the right mix of high-level leadership and hands-on support that your team needs: from scoping and ideation with product to fixing a production bug. 
  • Help your team and the rest of the engineering organization judiciously use AI tooling to accelerate our progress.


Our current technical stack most prominently features:

  • Ruby (Rails), Python (Flask), Javascript (Hotwire, React.js, Next.js)
  • Postgres
  • AWS infrastructure managed via Terraform 
  • Datadog, Posthog, Rollbar, Sentry
  • IDE(s) of choice, AI tools of choice


The candidates we’re looking for generally have:

  • 5+ years of experience in building production-grade, high-volume software systems
  • 1+ years of experience managing an engineering team
  • Full-stack experience, with particular emphasis on backend (server-side + serverless) 
  • Strong communication skills, and an understanding of how to work across all our business’s functions (risk, compliance, product, operations, etc)
  • Willingness to become domain subject matter experts in a highly regulated industry
  • Ability and enthusiasm to use any tool to get a job done, up to and including AI tools


These aren’t required but are a big plus:

  • Background in fintech or insurtech 
  • Prior professional experience with Rails 
  • Prior professional experience building B2B tooling / servicing platforms 


This role is primarily remote; however, the candidate must be based in the New York City metro area and able to attend periodic in-person meetings.


Benefits:

Base Salary Range: $175,000 - $210,000 / year
