About The Role
We’re hiring an Engineering Manager who can lead and elevate a team of exceptional engineers, make key technical and product decisions, and deliver high-impact projects that help Motion scale the next two orders of magnitude.
This role is about owning Motion’s highest-impact, hardest problems—the ones that require judgment, speed, and resilience. We expect EMs to drive real outcomes while building a team culture that’s intense, collaborative, and uncompromising on quality.
We work hard to ensure Motion’s engineering team is one of the most talented in the world. We regularly accomplish in weeks what takes other teams months, and we take on projects many teams would consider impossible. As an Engineering Manager, you’ll lead some of Motion’s most important work—setting direction, unblocking execution, and raising the bar for the entire team.
You will be a successful EM at Motion if you:
Operate with extreme ownership, high agency, and thrive in ambiguity: You can operate with high agency and deliver results even when thrown into ambiguity with incomplete information
Have strong product intuition and judgment: You make good product calls with incomplete context and translate product intent into clear, executable milestones.
Drive operational excellence: You are highly organized, track progress closely, surface risks early, and create clarity and momentum.
Actively coach and level up engineers: You set a high bar, give direct feedback, and help engineers grow faster than they would elsewhere.
Bring exceptional work ethic, maturity, and resilience: You perform above expectations on our IC culture rubric and handle pressure and feedback without ego.
Have a strong technical background: You are technical in nature and can weigh in on complex tradeoffs.
Compensation & Eligibility
Location: North America & Canada (remote)
Base Salary: $270,000 - $375,000
Bonus: $0 - $150,000
Total Compensation: $504,000 - $965,000 (includes equity & bonus)
The range listed reflects compensation for U.S.-based employees. For candidates outside the U.S., compensation will be adjusted to align with the local market and cost of living.
