Engineering Manager, Migrations Team

AI overview

Drive the evolution of Ordergroove's White-Glove Migrations offering by managing a skilled engineering team and enhancing the merchant onboarding experience through structured processes and hands-on,

Who We Are:

Ordergroove is a dynamic, fast-paced environment where you will be involved in building something of real value from the ground up. We're looking for bright, talented people who are excited about innovation, growth, and the exciting world of Relationship Commerce.  If you’re motivated by a desire to solve problems and deliver groundbreaking insights and solutions you’ll fit in perfectly!

About the role:

Our Migrations Team is entering an exciting new chapter: expanding our migrations capability into a true White-Glove offering for our customers, one that removes friction for merchants, gives them confidence from day one, and materially elevates their onboarding experience.

To make this possible, we’re hiring an Engineering Manager who is equal parts hands-on engineer, data problem-solver, customer whisperer, and team leader.

This is not a typical engineering management job. It’s a hybrid leadership + technical + customer-facing role for someone who loves structure-building as much as rolling up their sleeves.

You will oversee a senior team focused on data ingestion, transformation, and enterprise-level technical support. You’ll be the internal and external face of migrations, guiding merchants through a complex process that deeply impacts their recurring revenue.

This is an opportunity to design the “new way” Ordergroove executes migrations, tighten ingestion quality, streamline processes, reduce friction, and ensure merchants feel supported and confident every step of the way.

What You Will Do

Own and elevate Ordergroove’s White-Glove Migrations offering

  • Lead and refine the ingestion + transformation flow for merchant subscription data
  • Identify friction points and redesign how we migrate merchants from extraction through ingestion
  • Become both the internal and merchant-facing technical voice of migrations

Lead and develop a senior team

  • Manage a team of 3 engineers
  • Foster a servant-leadership culture: unblock, mentor, and empower
  • Ensure the team’s work is high-quality, coordinated, and merchant-centric

Be hands-on with data, scripts, and transformations

  • Write and refine scripts that improve accuracy, speed, and reliability

Troubleshoot data issues, propose pragmatic fixes, and help execute themContribute code toward internal tools and merchant-facing self-service capabilities

Partner closely with merchants

  • Join calls to gather migration requirements and craft migration plans
  • Instill confidence by simplifying complex data concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Deliver a smooth, predictable migration experience with transparent communication

Collaborate across Ordergroove

  • Work with Support, Professional Services and Engineering
  • Bring real-time merchant feedback to the product and engineering org
  • Drive multi-team alignment around timelines, expectations, and quality standards

Who you are:

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of backend or full-stack engineering experience
  • 1+ years leading or directly supervising engineers
  • Strong hands-on experience with data manipulation, scripting, and ETL-style workflows
  • Experience migrating data between systems with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Worked with PII/PCI or other sensitive data; strong understanding of data protection
  • Experience with both relational and non-relational databases
  • Experience working in environments with merchant/customer interaction (Tier 3 support, solutions engineering, client engineering, etc.)

Required Skills

  • Strong communicator comfortable with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Great judgment, pragmatism, and ability to make decisions quickly
  • Ability to untangle messy, ambiguous, ad-hoc problems
  • A “get things done” mindset with a bias for action
  • Humble servant leader who mentors, empowers, and learns from others

Technical Bonus Points

  • 5+ years of python coding experience
  • Django Framework
  • MongoEngine
  • NodeJS experience
  • MariaDB/MySQL and MongoDB
  • Kubernetes, Docker and Google Cloud Platform experience
  • Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento, SFCC integration experience
  • Experience working for a SOC2, GDPR compliant company
