Engineering Manager II

Box is looking for visionary technical leaders for our engineering teams in Warsaw, who will lead, inspire, and mentor engineers, while bridging communication between the US and Poland engineering hubs, and fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. The engineering manager role at Box involves spearheading significant technology initiatives, overseeing the entire lifecycle of projects across multiple architectural layers. Your knowledge can be vital for improving Box product and solving exciting challenges related to Cloud Content Management.

We are currently looking for leaders for the following teams:

• Box Apps Consumer Experience team is a key part of the broader Box Apps effort which is composed of multiple teams in Poland and the US.  We are building ways for our customers to quickly realize their own customized intelligent line of business applications on the Box platform.  This is a frontend-focused team chartered with delivering powerful and intuitive experiences for end users to gain maximum value from their content, through AI-powered dashboards and workflows.

• Enterprise Activity Management team is a part of Box's Enterprise Engineering organization. Our main customers are 200K+ enterprise admins, whose responsibilities are to set up and configure Box apps for their enterprises, onboard and migrate users, set rules and permissions for users, groups, files, and folders within their orgs, and run reports. Therefore our team has two major domains: Insights&Reports and Users&Groups. 

• The Filesystem team is the backbone of the Box platform - not just a file system, but the core service powering nearly every Box feature. It supports content access for internal and external clients, serving millions of users and tens of thousands of businesses, including most of the Fortune 500. Operating at millions of requests per second, it secures hundreds of billions of content items with an advanced permissions system and enables the collaboration features that define Box. As Box drives the future of content management, evolving the Filesystem is critical to that vision.

• Our Launchpad Engineering Team powers our core product experience pillars: design system, accessibility (a11y), internationalization (i18n), and in‑app guidance. This team drives a cohesive component library and tooling that accelerates product teams, improves UI consistency, and reduces maintenance costs across our frontend applications.

• The Content Creation engineering team builds Box's core end-user products that enable seamless content creation within Box—including Box Notes, Box Canvas, and other key experiences. The team has a large full-stack surface area and it directly shapes how millions of users create and collaborate on content in Box. The team recently shipped AI-powered features that transform our Notes Editor into an AI-first content creation experience—allowing users to leverage existing content in Box and integrate AI directly into their workflows and we have a very ambitious roadmap to redefine content creation in the new world of AI.
  
  

• The Mobile Foundations engineering team enables Box's frontend engineers to deliver essential features for our iOS and Android apps used by millions. Our native mobile apps are built using Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android, and we've added React-Native for cross-platform development - the Foundations team is responsible for ensuring a best-in-class developer experience with these platforms from design to code to production. As the manager of this team, you'll partner with stakeholders to set the roadmap, prioritize tasks, and lead your team to achieve its goals, delighting customers & maximizing impact!
  
  

Your expertise is essential to our journey in shaping tomorrow's content management landscape!

Who you are:

• Ideally, you have over 2 years of experience as a software engineering manager, leading teams responsible for high-scale production services.
• You possess at least 5 years of professional software development experience, contributing to the development of full-stack web applications and/or distributed systems.
• You excel at aligning and executing new technical ideas, demonstrating an understanding of best practices.
• Proven experience in driving effective execution with agile processes in a dynamic environment.
• A people-oriented leader, capable of modelling and fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
• Exceptional at communicating, passionate about technology and committed to raising the bar.
• Experience working with distributed teams across different time zones is advantageous.
• Proficient in English.

Bonus Points:

• Hands-on experience designing and building cloud-native architecture for AWS, GCP, or similar.
• Passion for open source and staying abreast of community developments.

Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of experienced engineers in Poland.
• Define the team's roadmap, execution plans, and take ownership of project delivery.
• Develop team members through 1:1s, career planning, coaching discussions, and hiring.
• Uphold values by building a collaborative, inclusive team focused on customer impact.
• Cultivate a culture of excellence through emphasis on execution, quality, and scale.
• Organize stand-ups, sprint planning, technical discussions, and manage sprint task statuses.
• Collaborate with product teams to scope new features, provide project estimates, and inform quarterly commitments.
• Work with cross-functional partners and stakeholders to ensure the team delivers significant business impact.
• Manage and coordinate the team’s on-call rotation to ensure timely and effective incident response, actively participate in escalated on-call incidents to provide leadership and support, and drive improvements by addressing recurring issues to minimize disruptions.
• Represent Box internally and externally.
