The Role

Our team is committed to developing popular products within the philanthropic ecosystem, such as the Donation Checkout, Site Builder, Campaign Creator, and Hosted Campaigns. We are currently seeking a skilled and professional Engineering Manager with strong experience in data modeling, SQL, object-oriented programming, Ruby on Rails, HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS, who values quality through simplicity. 

Our Software Engineering Managers are expected to be passionate about both people leadership and hands-on technical work. You don't need to be the smartest person in the team but you must be able to identify strong ideas, elevate others, and distinguish genuine value from noise.

You will manage a talented team of software engineers, mentor them, and support their professional growth. You'll help set technical direction, guide delivery, and ensure high standards around architecture, code quality, and execution.

You will work closely with Product Managers, Designers, and other stakeholders to continuously improve the donor fundraising experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain exciting features used by millions of users.
  • Champion well-written tests; refactor and remove code for long-term maintainability
  • Uphold company architecture and code design principles
  • Own team delivery: quality, pace, and reliability
  • Partner with Product Managers and Designers to help slice scope and maximize delivered value
  • Review pull requests and guide technical decisions
  • Support bug triage and prioritization in partnership with Customer Support
  • Ensure timely deployment of priority fixes
  • Translate product requirements into technical approaches
  • Coach engineers through feedback, performance reviews, and ongoing mentorship
  • Communicate technical constraints and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
  • Proactively surface risks before they become issues

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years as a Software Engineer
  • 4+ years as Software Engineering Manager 
  • Excellent communication skills, and the flexibility that is necessary for working in a small, globally distributed team.
  • Advanced English writing and speaking skills
  • 7+ years of Ruby on Rails experience.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL
  • Strong experience with vanilla Javascript
  • Write clean, maintainable HTML and CSS
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems without direct orders.
