The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Document Engineering team. This is a role for a technically grounded leader who excels at building and developing high-performing teams, driving architectural strategy, and ensuring seamless delivery — without necessarily being in the weeds of day-to-day code. You'll partner closely with engineering leadership, product, and clinical stakeholders to translate complex business needs into scalable technical solutions.

This is the right role for someone who has strong engineering roots but finds their greatest impact through people, process, and strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of engineers — fostering a culture of ownership, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with recruiting to grow the team and assess technical talent.
  • Run effective team rituals (standups, retrospectives, planning) that keep the team aligned and unblocked.
  • Act as a shield and advocate for the team, managing competing priorities and protecting focus.

Technical Strategy & Architecture

  • Serve as the technical voice of the team in cross-functional conversations — you don't need to write every line, but you must understand the systems deeply enough to guide decisions and challenge assumptions.
  • Oversee architectural decisions for document generation systems that integrate with our data science and clinical platforms.
  • Champion "Shift Left" engineering culture — driving adoption of static analysis, contract testing, security scanning, and pre-commit standards across the team.

Delivery & Stakeholder Management

  • Own the team's roadmap and delivery commitments, proactively communicating timelines, blockers, and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bridge the gap between business needs and technical feasibility, ensuring engineers have clear context and stakeholders have realistic expectations.
  • Lead compliance efforts to ensure all document generation processes meet healthcare regulations (HIPAA) and data privacy standards.

Developer Experience & Process

  • Champion tooling and process improvements that reduce friction and improve team velocity.
  • Ensure local development environments, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment standards are robust, consistent, and well-maintained.
  • Identify systemic bottlenecks and drive initiatives to address them — from infrastructure to team workflow.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in an engineering management or technical lead role overseeing backend/systems teams.
  • Strong foundation in backend systems and architecture — you've built or overseen complex, scalable systems and can meaningfully evaluate technical approaches.
  • Familiarity with Python-based backend services and the architectural patterns that support them (you don't need to be writing Python daily, but you must be fluent enough to review, guide, and hire for it).
  • Experience working in AWS environments (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB) and comfort with serverless and cloud-native architectures.
  • Proven ability to manage technical delivery in regulated industries (healthcare or finance preferred), with an understanding of compliance and security practices (HIPAA, OWASP, NIST).
  • Track record of driving engineering culture and process improvements — CI/CD, testing standards, developer experience.

What We're Looking For:

  • A leader who earns trust through clarity and follow-through, not just technical depth.
  • Someone equally comfortable in a 1:1 with an engineer and in a roadmap review with a VP.
  • A manager who gives their team room to own their work while staying close enough to catch risks early.
  • Someone with strong opinions on engineering quality and standards, who knows how to bring a team along rather than mandate from above.

Remote Work Requirements:

  • An established private work area that ensures information privacy
  • A stable high-speed internet connection for telephonic and/or remote work

Joining Arine offers you a dynamic role and the opportunity to contribute to the company's growth and shape its future. You'll have unparalleled learning and growth prospects, collaborating closely with experienced Clinicians, Engineers, Software Architects, and Digital Health Entrepreneurs.
