Engineering Manager, Android Mobile

About the Role

We are looking for a driven and collaborative Engineering Manager to lead the Android Mobile Team. This role will be responsible for guiding the technical execution, team development, and product delivery for our Android apps. You will lead a group of talented engineers to build features that meet high standards of quality, performance, and usability—while shaping our roadmap planning and spatial platforms at Crunchyroll.

You’ll play a critical role in creating platform-specific experiences that feel native, beautiful, and intuitive. As the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for both the people management and the technical direction of the team, ensuring effective execution and strong collaboration with stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

• Manage and mentor a team of engineers working on the Android mobile applications.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Program, and Designers to define and execute the roadmap for the team.
• Set technical direction and guide architectural decisions to ensure high performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Deliver polished, accessible, and delightful user experiences tailored to Android’s screens and spatial interfaces.
• Oversee the day-to-day team operations including agile ceremonies like sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, etc.
• Drive cross-functional collaboration across design, quality, infrastructure, and other platform teams.
• Provide regular feedback and career growth support to your team through one-on-ones and performance reviews.
• Recruit, hire, and onboard top engineering talent to grow the team.
  
  

About You

• You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• You have 9+ years of professional experience in building native applications for Android platforms.
• You’ve managed engineering teams for 3–5+ years and have a passion for developing people and building cohesive teams.
• You’re experienced in Kotlin, Jetpack Libraries, and Android’ platform development environments.
• You have a deep understanding of performance optimization, asynchronous rendering, and large-screen or immersive experience design.
• You’re a strong communicator and collaborator, able to work across functions and disciplines.
• You’re excited about the future of spatial computing and lean into the unique design challenges it presents.

The Android Mobile Team is responsible for building and maintaining our Crunchyroll applications on Android mobile, tablet, automotive, and VR. These platforms represent the future of immersive entertainment, and our mission is to create rich, performant, and engaging user experiences that bring anime to life in new and innovative ways. We partner closely with product, design, and other platform teams to create seamless experiences optimized for the living room and spatial environments.
