About the role 

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Brisbane Renewable Fuels (BRF) Project team and lead the engineering function of this mega project through FEED, EPC, Commissioning and into Operation to deliver a world scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) manufacturing facility in Brisbane. This is a leadership role that oversees engineering planning and delivery, supports the Project Manager in line with Projects at Ampol (PAA) process, and ensures standards meet business needs. It leads the engineering team including consultants and contractor deliverables, contributes to HSE and Technical Safety, supports regulatory submissions including MHF licence updates, and maintains clear accountability across the engineering team while representing the project in technical and government forums.  

 

Key responsibilities  

  • Lead the BRF Engineering team to ensure high levels of engagement, teamwork and quality 

  • Support the Project Manager in delivering engineering outputs through all formal stage gates in line with the PAA process. 

  • Ensure project engineering standards are fit for purpose and aligned with broader business and operational requirements. 

  • Manage engineering consultants and contractors, ensuring performance, contract compliance, and seamless integration of deliverables into company systems at handover. 

  • Develop, resource, and execute engineering management plans, contributing to project planning, estimating, and contracting strategies. 

  • Lead technical safety accountability within the project HSE framework, including input to regulatory and planning submissions and updates to the MHF licence. 

  • Provide technical leadership and interface management, including representing the project in government discussions and ensuring clear role accountability across maintenance activities.

Your diverse communication and strong stakeholder management, combined with your strategic project management experience enable you to excel in this role and deliver positive business outcomes.  

You are passionate about problem-solving, with a deep commitment to safety and efficiency.  

 

 

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Relevant tertiary engineering qualification with RPEQ eligibility. 

  • Extensive leadership experience across multiple engineering disciplines 

  • Extensive experience in large, complex hydrocarbon projects (LNG, refining or similar), including brownfield and greenfield FEED and EPC scopes in client-side roles. 

  • Proven engineering management capability in complex contracting environments, including international contractor centres of excellence. 

  • Strong HSE experience within a Major Hazards Facility environment. 

  • Advanced proficiency in engineering management IT systems and integration into operating environments, with an understanding of refining economics. 

  • Demonstrated senior stakeholder engagement, systemic thinking, root cause problem solving, and leadership behaviours aligned to organisational capability frameworks.
