Engineering Manager, AI Entries team

The Applied AI team is in search of an Engineering Manager to lead the AI Entries team. You will drive the technical strategy for integrating Lyft into emerging AI ecosystems through Model Context Protocol (MCP) and other agentic interfaces. You will build and mentor a high-performing team responsible for designing robust, scalable software systems that power multimodal user experiences. By pioneering these novel interaction layers, you will transform the customer journey and make Lyft available everywhere our riders are.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical vision and strategy for a rapidly evolving product area, defining how Lyft exposes its capabilities to third-party AI agents via MCP servers, agentic frameworks, and new hardware surfaces.
• Co-own the product strategy with the product partner and ensure a timely delivery with high quality of engineering solutions.
• Lead a team of talented software engineers who like to ship code and tackle hard problems in areas like MCP server development, LLM integrations, tool design, multimodal inputs (voice, visual), and context-aware service architectures.
• Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members. Help develop their careers and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals.
• Build teams that are collaborative, inclusive, and respectful of each other. Provide continuous feedback, address performance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of your team members.
• Create plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges in your organization. Maintain a balance between building sustainable, high-impact projects and shipping things quickly.
• Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team's code, architecture, and processes.
• Work closely with the Lyft recruiting team to hire high-potential candidates from diverse backgrounds.
• Work with your engineers and/or product managers to maintain a prioritized backlog and create short-term and long-term goals.
• Own your team's deliverables and ensure we continue to ship scalable, highly-available software systems that delight our riders.

Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering.
• 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
• Strong foundation in architecting, building, and scaling distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.
• Experience launching consumer-facing products alongside backend-focused engineering work; experience with LLM integrations, MCP or other agentic protocols, or multimodal interactions is a strong plus.
• You have experience leading a team of engineers and guiding them through their career development.
• You enjoy working in a collaborative environment, and you're committed to driving projects to completion creatively.
• You can motivate and instill a strong sense of ownership in your team.
• You have experience guiding teams through planning, prioritization, and execution of work.
• You are able to thrive in a heavily cross-functional environment and drive projects to completion regardless of the organizational structure.
• You work well with product and science partners and help set the product vision for an ambiguous project.
• Very strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills and aptitude to engage directly and effectively with company executives.

The expected base pay range for this position in the Toronto area is CAD $172,000 - CAD $215,000, not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location.
