About The Role
The purpose of this role is to work closely with our team and ensure that the projects we develop for our customers are aligned to customers’ requirements.
This role is designed for impact, and we believe our best work happens when we connect. While we operate a flexible model, we expect you to spend time on site (at our offices or a client location) for collaboration sessions, customer meetings, and internal workshops.
What You’ll Do
Leadership & Team Development:
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to platform engineers, fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
- Identify growth opportunities for the team aligned with talent, interests, and business needs.
- Ensure appropriate skillsets and capacity are allocated to tasks and deliverables.
- Manage workload allocation to balance project work with training, upskilling, and leave.
- Actively support team recruitment when applicable.
- Lead the performance review process for team members in line with company strategy.
- Effectively manage team capacity and workload allocation, ensuring optimal deployment of skillsets to tasks, while strategically balancing project deliverables with dedicated time for training, upskilling, and leave.
- Manage day-to-day people management activities (leave, on-call, sickness, overtime, ROTA, timesheets, 1:1s).
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to both internal stakeholders and external customers, understanding their technical challenges and providing expert guidance and solutions utilising GCP technologies, patterns, and best practices.
- Represent the team in relevant internal and external forums.
- Identify the long-term impact of designs, advise stakeholders of risks, and suggest secure solutions or involve relevant internal stakeholders.
Strategic & Operational Planning:
- Provide valuable input to Management regarding capacity planning, allocation to new contracts, and team upskilling needs.
- Support management with the assessment of new incoming contracts and scope of work for the team.
- Proactively pursue decision-making processes to drive team success, including cost analysis based on time management.
- Partner with support teams to facilitate shift-left activities.
Technical & Business Acumen:
- Propose and/or develop improvements for overall internal tooling.
- Keep abreast of technology developments to ensure Qodea remains ahead of the technology curve.
- Represent Qodea in external engagements with Google and the wider tech community (e.g., technical writing, presenting at events).
- Manage the workload allocation so that we can ensure time for training and upskilling, as well as leave, in a balanced way
- Actively involved and supporting the recruitment for your team, when applicable
- Managing the day-to-day people management-related activities: leave, on-call, sickness, overtime, shift ROTA, timesheet management, recurrent 1:1s, etc.
- Leading the performance review process for your team members in line with the company strategy and timeframes
- Propose and /or develop improvements of the overall internal tooling

- Represent Qodea in external engagements with Google and the wider tech community, when applicable. We can align this to your strengths, for example technical writing or presenting at events.
Requirements

- Curiosity relating to technology and bringing together the two areas, people management and technology.
- Understanding of platform engineering, delivery and infrastructure automation
- Understanding of Docker and Kubernetes in production environments, and an understanding of container orchestration and management.
- Good awareness of infrastructure as code (IaC) and tools like Terraform, comfortable with configuration management tooling such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or Salt.
- Good level of understanding of Linux operating systems (e.g., Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS) with experience in some systems administration and troubleshooting
- Experience with continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) tools, such as Jenkins, ArgoCD, or similar pipelines, with a focus on automation and reliability
- Knowledge of modern internet protocols and patterns, including but not limited to gRPC, GraphQL, REST APIs, and related tools.
- Proven experience in a cloud-focused delivery role (DevOps or Software Development)
