About Charm
Our mission is to return the atmosphere to 280 ppm CO₂. We convert excess inedible biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and inject it into underground storage for permanent carbon removal. At scale, we can use bio-oil to make fossil-free iron.
Our carbon removal efforts began in 2020 with initial purchases from customers like Stripe, Shopify, and Microsoft. Since then, we’ve scaled to thousands of tons of carbon removal, grown to over a hundred employees, and established three locations in San Francisco, Colorado, and Louisiana.
We're expanding our team of ambitious, creative, and hands-on problem solvers. We value psychological safety, collaboration, and continuous learning. We take calculated risks and treat mistakes as opportunities to improve. If you're excited about tackling big challenges, we encourage you to explore our company values.
Come help us reverse climate change. Gigatons or bust!
About the Role
As a Fabricator & Assembly Technician at our Fort Lupton campus, you’ll join a driven and highly technical team that is responsible for fabricating pyrolyzer components and supporting the assembly + commissioning of new pyrolysis systems. This specific Fabrication role will provide critical and unique welding and fabrication skills to make engineering designs come to life with deep collaboration with design engineers and operations staff. Working with fellow Charmers, vendors, and occasional third parties, you’ll be directly contributing to new designs and iterative design improvement on existing equipment.
You’re a great candidate for this role if you have experience with engineering drawing interpretation, metal fabrication, mechanical assembly, and are an excellent communicator/creative problem solver. The ideal candidate is safety-minded, proactive, confident using machine tools and welding, and is able to effectively prioritize multiple tasks on a day-to-day basis.
This role will report to our Engineering Technician Lead in Fort Lupton within the Engineering Department.
Your Responsibilities
Fabricate key pieces of pyrolysis equipment from a range of design details. Some of our parts have full design drawings, and some are whims that we’ll sketch together on a white board. We want you to be able to handle all of the above!
Use and maintain our shop tools, including being an advocate for safety and best practices for keeping them highly functioning.
Learn and navigate our CAD program (Onshape) to interface with design engineers and leverage the tool to create and document novel designs.
Participate in inventory management and sub-assembly workflows in the Fabrication shop to ensure all fabrication kits are properly located and traceable.
Participate in quality inspection and quality reviews alongside design engineers to make sure completed assemblies meet design intent
Learn and apply the various fabrication tools in our shop, CNC plasma table, plasma cutting, rotary welding table, pipe threader, press break, 3D printer
Record your work in Confluence/JIRA/Google Product Suite, including providing documentation as needed.
Give written and verbal feedback on the design of the equipment. Offer ways to design or fabricate something more easily based on your experience. We want someone who is excited to work alongside our design engineers to create the best possible outcomes.
