AI overview

Design and deliver innovative long-range radio transceiver solutions for advanced drones, collaborating closely with firmware teams and ensuring optimal communication performance.

As an Electronics RF Engineer, you will play a key role in our hardware engineering core  team, designing and delivering state-of-the-art electronics that power our next-generation drone platforms. In this position you are developing the PCBs and antenna solutions that enable robust, long-range communication and video links to our drones. Working closely with our radio firmware team, you'll bring cutting-edge transceivers and SDR technologies to life, optimizing signal-to-noise ratio, boosting output power, and troubleshooting and improving existing solutions. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced, agile environment, offering the opportunity to design creative solutions for radio transceivers from concept to mass production.

Beyond RF, you'll contribute your expertise to the broader hardware team, supporting the development of drone-specific PCBs and enhancing the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of our designs.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design and develop long-range radio transceiver electronics from requirements to production, including simulation, schematic and PCB design, board bring-up and system-level integration.
  • Define and execute the verification and validation of our transceivers, including EMC and thermal optimisation, as well as certification (e.g. FCC and RED).
  • Conduct antenna and RF measurement campaigns in our internal laboratory and with external testing facilities.
  • Participate in field testing to validate the link budget, latency and interference rejection in real-world conditions, ensuring the drone maintains a stable connection in 'noisy' RF environments.
  • Create supporting documents such as concepts, CAD drawings, bills of materials and assembly instructions.
  • Troubleshoot issues that span electrical and software boundaries using solid measurement equipment skills (SA, VNA, oscilloscopes, etc.).

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field
  • 3+ years in RF system design and/or SDR development, including practical experience with antenna integration, verification and validation
  • Skilled in using RF test equipment (spectrum analyzers, signal generators, network analyzers).
  • Experienced in designing complex mixed-signal circuit boards, including layouting high-speed interfaces like USB3.1, GbE or MIPI-CSI
  • Pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset
  • Good verbal and written English communication skills
  • Proficiency with Altium is desirable
  • Experience with Ansys HFSS or Cadence MWO / Keysight ADS is a plus

Benefits

  • Flexible working hours
  • Stock Options
  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Company pension plan
  • Car parking
  • Enhanced maternity & paternity leave
  • Mental health and wellbeing support
