Zero Motorcycles' Electrical Test Engineer supports the electrical validation of vehicle systems, subsystems, and components through hands-on testing and documentation. Reporting to the Senior Electrical Test Engineer, this role executes electrical tests to verify performance, reliability, and safety requirements across Zero's electric motorcycle platform.

Electrical Test Engineer, Level I or Level II

The Electrical Test Engineer conducts system and component-level testing based on established design validation plans, accurately documents test procedures and results, and maintains clear communication with engineering stakeholders. This position develops proficiency in test equipment operation, data collection methods, and electrical system troubleshooting while working collaboratively with Electrical Engineering and cross-functional teams.

What You’ll Do:

Level I

  • Prepare and configure test benches, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems for electrical testing activities

  • Conduct electrical tests on components and subsystems following established test procedures and safety protocols

  • Document test results and observations, and generate test reports for engineering stakeholders

  • Assist in the development of test plans and test setups under the direction of senior test engineers

  • Support cross-functional teams during integrated system testing and validation activities

  • Develop proficiency in electrical system troubleshooting and validation methodologies

Level II

  • Lead complex validation activities from subsystem integration through vehicle-level validation

  • Develop and refine test plans, test benches, and instrumentation configurations in collaboration with technical stakeholders

  • Configure and troubleshoot test benches, instrumentation, and vehicle electrical system faults

  • Diagnose test failures, analyze test data anomalies, and propose corrective actions

  • Generate clear and comprehensive test reports that effectively communicate findings, analysis, and recommendations to engineering stakeholders

  • Partner with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts to maintain DVP&R schedule adherence, resolve testing issues, and address validation questions

  • Coordinate with third-party test labs, external partners, and equipment vendors on testing activities, instrumentation specifications, and technical requirements

  • Contribute to the improvement of validation processes, test methodologies, and documentation standards

Requirements

What You’ll Bring:

Required:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Mechanical/Computer/Robotics/Etc. Engineering Degree with Electrical Background

  • 0-5 years of relevant experience in electrical testing, validation, or vehicle development

  • Utilization of data collection tools such as DMMs, Oscilloscopes, DAQs

  • Working knowledge of electric vehicle architecture (i.e. High voltage battery systems and their subcomponents, motor controllers, chargers, DCDC converters, etc.)

  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, RS232, & SPI

  • Proficiency with test data analysis, interpretation, and reporting

  • Ability to interpret technical documentation (e.g. Datasheets, Schematics, Drawings, Standards, etc.)

  • Experience object-oriented programming and scripting languages (Python, MATLAB, or similar)

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands

  • Hands-on comfort working with motorcycles, including basic mechanical aptitude

  • Able to work independently while recognizing when to seek support

  • Excellent communication skills for cross-functional team alignment

  • Capable of producing clear, timely, detailed reports and documentation

  • Skilled in structured problem-solving and data-driven decision-making

  • Positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to “jump in” where needed

  • Able to uphold IP confidentiality in all external communications

Motorcycle license:

  • Valid motorcycle license preferred or willingness to obtain license within 6 months of start

Desired:

  • Background with strain gauges, accelerometers, potentiometers, load cells, thermocouples, and related technologies

  • Test Fixture and Test Bench Design experience

  • Utilization of product lifecycle management (PLM) systems, requirements management tools, issue tracking tools (JIRA)

  • Familiarity with SolidWorks

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute test plans, support validation activities, and effectively communicate technical findings

  • Understanding of ISO-16750 or IEC-60068

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate in real-time with internal and external partners

  • Ability to move between facilities, and navigate a workshop environment for extended periods

  • Ability to bend, lift, stoop, and handle equipment or objects up to 50 lbs

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods

Travel

  • Occasional domestic and/ or international required (less than 15%)

Location

Our culture is best experienced in person and this role is an onsite position, so the selected candidate will work in the Scotts Valley office — just a short drive from Santa Cruz beaches, and Silicon Valley.

The estimated salary range for a new hire in this position is $95,000 to $120,000. Actual salary may vary depending on job-related factors, which may include candidate's knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to regular salary, Zero offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, life, and disability insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) matching plan.
